All of the transfers-in of last summer were probably already well scouted and earmarked before Monk took over in Feb.
Well in your pragmatism engage your brain, because not many fans would expect a 'Rookie' manager to bring home a cup in his first season, only the deluded would. By the way I don't put much credence in your above post either.
But some would have us believe the most useless manager in the history of Swansea was able to. Or was it all down to the players? No they were all rubbish too.
Oh,so "Cupless" is a "rookie" again,eh? Last Sunday he was a "genius". "I don't put much credence in your above post either". Yet you gave it enough to reply to it?
Some words from Ashley Williams on Garry Monk as per BBC website: "He's done brilliantly for what he did when he first came in," Williams said. "He steadied it straight away and he's put his stamp on it this year." Wales captain Williams believes the club are now reaping the rewards of his appointment. "The football that we've played, even when we haven't played great, you can see how committed the boys are," Williams added. "We haven't had many wobbles and we've been in the top half the whole season." "People appreciate the work that he does and the way he prepares us for games."
Because it's true. Try reading what our chairman thinks about his first year in the job in today's EP Monk will be here for a very long time...
Because that's the way we work. Today Monk said we missed targets (always happens), yesterday we heard players we wanted now were being put on hold for the summer. Other players being targeted would not have been available this window, 'All of the transfers-in of last summer were probably already well scouted and earmarked before Monk took over in Feb.'
So we go from saying last summer that Monk won't be able to sign ANY player of decent quality to now speculating that our new players were earmarked before Monk took the job
Really? Monk's words so you are saying he's talking bullshit? Tut tut. Do you really think a £90,000,000+ enterprise buys in their main assets on a whim, at the drop of a hat? Dear me!
You can go from saying anything you want to whatever you want. I will jot a note and you can have fun twisting it to whatever you like. If we don't earmark a rolling long list of players 12 - 18 months in advance someone hasn't been doing their job. Some of those players drop off the list, some stay on but aren't approached, some are contacted but won't want anything to do with us, some others will be added, a small number will sign. I am sure Monk will have added and removed players from the long list and have a personal wish list. Occasionally there will be players brought in who have become available unexpectedly and we have taken a punt on, e.g. Fabianski. Players like Gomis, Oliviera, Siggurdson and Montero were being spoken of in connection with Swansea over 18 months ago - they have come in on Monk's watch so I would expect him to agreed and worked with the board to get them in. From comments signings have made it sounds like players are on hand to welcome them.
Come off it Bob, this is just yet another attempt to not give Monk credit. Why would we have looked to sign Gylfi when both Bony and Michu were here? Same for Montero when Pablo was here. Carroll on loan while Canas/JDG/Pozuelo, Fernandez for Chico etc.
I took quite a sharp tone on the match day thread and Bob and Vetch were not happy with my comments. Fair enough. Bob, you said that you'd give Monk credit where it was due, but you'd never 'like' him. I can completely relate to that. However, it still seems like a few people on here are still intent on trying to find every reason to debase any efforts that could be remotely attributed to Monk while attributing all wrongs to him. Surely he's been involved in it all? The good transfers, the bad transfers, the good results, the bad results, the motivation, etc. Again I find myself asking where the brevity is.
[QUOTE="Shaper, post: "Again I find myself asking where the brevity is." There's an ephemerality about your continued love affair with the "brevity" word,Shaper. It's use would be more acceptable if it were introduced to threads where previous Managerial incumbents are on the receiving end of constant vindictiveness, and abuse,as is STILL the case with Michael Laudrup, for example. I say that only in the interest of fair play.
