Beefy - not particularly close, I had only known him for 4 months due to university halls. But still, used to kick about on the weekends with him and saw him just a few days before returning home. Been round our flat numerous times to hang out and play FIFA! A shame.
It's sad when people you know die so young. Had a few mates die in my life. I guess it makes you value life so much more.

Anyone who is a fan of Game of Thronesknows that Gregor Clegane (The Mountain) is an absolute beast, and the 6ft 9" strongman has recently written his name into the history books by breaking a 1000-year-old record. During this weekend’s World’s Strongest Viking competition, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, the actor that plays The Mountain, broke an ancient Viking record by walking three steps with a 600kg log.
Yep, I lost a girlfriend in a car accident when we were 18. It stays with you always, but you learn a lot of good lessons too.
Horrible things happen unfortunately, as we all know. It's just a lot stranger at that age, not necessarily harder, but trickier to compute because it's during your 'invincible' years. It's that feeling of "how can x person be dead" as opposed to "****, they're dead".
I just remember a feeling which was as much like a detached confusion than anything else which I'd attribute to the age. Not the bone-wrenching sadness of later deaths (such as when my dad went). Blimey, this got a bit depressing!
Let's cheer this up a bit - in the spirit of earlier tales about Le Tiss. My folks were coming down to Southampton for a game and to take me out for my birthday a (long) while back when I was living in the city. I'd been at the now defunct Celebrations the week before at it's opening night, with Tiss and the whole squad (and Bally - the night had doubled up as his 50th birthday party). I didn't really know Tiss, but I told him I was coming down with my folks the next week for my birthday meal. No more was said on that topic, but much more was drunk. Anyhow, when we came down the following week, we were shown to our table, and there at my place was a copy of the Unbelievable video, signed by Matt saying "To LTL (well, obviously not that, but my real name) Happy Birthday, Enjoy the meal, Matt Le Tissier". Proper gent (it was all off his own back from the previous week, nothing to do with my parents, I checked!)
Bugger that is another player unavailable for Saturday. How many have we now in the injury room? How did he do it? Lifting an extra large muffin packed with sausages I bet.
http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/117...porn_shame_of_well_known_Southampton_teacher/ Only 6months??? And suspended???? I despair sometimes, our justice system is a ****ing joke.
Sky interviewing 4 darts players about to take off in a small helicopter....wouldn't say they were fat, but that little bugger ain't going to take off any time soon. Don't think the interviewer thought they were going far as he signed off with, 'See you on the other side, boys.'
The problem is that viewers of such porn almost feel that they aren't hurting anyone....buying such porn encourages production. It is the same with men using some brothels...they think they aren't doing anything illegal, but they encourage exploitation and, in some cases, slavery and human trafficking. Punishments need to be hard on users of porn...they are not innocent victims. I love the way they sometimes use stress or death of a relative as an excuse....we all suffer some time in our lives but don't turn to aberrant behaviour.
Fran, your post covers all porn and 'brothels'. I am not sure that use of legal prostitution is a problem. I have never and wouldn't want to use one, but that doesn't mean where it is legal to do so, people who do should be classed as having aberrant behavior. I do understand the link to human trafficking in illegal ones though. Porn is another category that needs to be divided before being castigated; there is no doubt that animal/child/illegal stuff is very, very wrong, but no matter our personal views on other stuff, people are entitled to what is legal. Difficult moral area though. slightly off topic from the ex-teacher though - he was in the wrong.
