Green Onouha Sandro Caulker Isla Henry Fer Taarabt Yun Vargas Hoilett The previously preferred 3 5 2 but with a bit of pace and steel. Sandro has played for Spurs in that position previously and well. Onouha and Caulker should have the pace to accommodate Sandro's lack of, but he should have more of a footballing brain. Isla is freed up to rampage on the right, Henry for some steel in the middle with Fer and Taarabt in the middle. Yun will be busy. Vargas and Hoilett as they have pace and will scare far more then the currently off colour and overated Austin and the one trick pony that is Zamora. Of course there would have to be no little prep and man management for this to succeed which is where we would fall down. Note, no Barton, Hill, Dunne, Austin, Zamora - why not? No pace and no skill.
I imagine he's still encouraged to do so though - and all the more reason for us to pin you back under pressure no?
Playing 4-4-2 without wingers is nuts. Harry will play 4-4-2 so I hope and pray he starts with Philips and or Hoilett on the wings. I'd pick a 4-3-3. Three central midfields to win the ball and create opportunities. Three up front with Vargas and Hoilett to support Austin and pin back their full backs reducing their counter threat. ----------------------Green --Isla------Onouha-------Dunne--Yun -----------------------Sandro --------------Barton----------Fer -----Vargas------------------------Hoilett -----------------------Austin
On the basis that Vargas as only played up front against Liverpool (as a sub) and effectively scored 2 goals, why has he not started there more often? He is not a winger, nor his Fer. Nor for that matter are Phillips or Hoilett. Jarvis would have been so perfect for us, it's not even funny. Somehow, we just need to go for it every game as it hasn't worked the other way, especially away from home. Eventually something will stick, but not confident of us staying up, one little bit.
------------------------------------Green-------------------------------- Isla--------------------Onuoha------------Ferdinand---------------Yun ---------------------------------Henry---------------------------------- Vargas-------------------------Fer-------------------------------Hoilett ------------------------Austin-------------Taarabt---------------------- But he won't drop Barton . Have to have width IMO and Vargas/Isla are very good as is Yun and Hoilett There are goals in my team and i would like to see Rio play … he still has the ability to be the best player on the pitch IMO … we are now talking about a Rio who has to fight and he will have Pelle in his pocket. Fer must kill Ward Prowse then saints won't tick … by that i mean attack and make him defend
------------------------------------Green-------------------------------- Isla--------------------Onuoha------------Caulker------_---------Yun ---------------------------------Sandro---------------------------------- Barton-------------------------Fer-------------------------------Taarabt ----------------------Vargas----------------Austin---------------------- I like the OP team. Attack from the off and really get at them. If Sandro isn't able to last the whole match, bring on Henry at Half Time. Similarily, if Taarabt is getting no joy creating, bring on Kranjcar or Hoilett. We should aim to go in at Half Time two goals to the good. Then plan for the second half to deliver a threat that keeps them guessing. A bit of tactical awareness and guile, commitment and belief is all we need. The team is more than capable of getting a result and we of course will be that twelfth man that will give us a major advantage.
I like that too. IMO you can play 4-4-2 without wingers. Liverpool and others do it with a diamond in midfield. However, the fullbacks MUST attack at every opportunity. I didn't pick Hoilett as Harry seemed to have wrecked his confidence. It will be interesting to see who Les starts on Saturday.
With Ferdinand in charge we might line up in a 4-3-3 ----------------------Stejskal---------------------- Bardsley-----Peacock---Maddix------Wilson ---------------------Holloway---------------------- --------------Barker--------Wilkins--------------- Impey--------------------------------------Sinton ---------------------Ferdinand-------------------- Subs: Penrice, Allen, Sinclar, Brevett, Ready
Could there be a chance that Zarate miraculously will have recovered his "fitness"? I can't help feeling that the problem with him playing was a quick falling out with HR. If he's fit, Diataike can play as well. At least we would be entertained!
This thread is now much more interesting after Harry's bombshell. What will Les go for? Green Ned Dunne Caulker Yun Barton Sandro Fer Tarbs Vargas Charlie
Makes it much harder to guess what the team will be. I reckon most of us could have got 10 out of 11 at least if it was Harry's home team. You think Les will leave out Isla? Why?
Schneiderlin and Wanyama both back in training and will probably both appear. Outside chanec of Alderweireld, too.
That's disappointing (for us) to hear. Both big players for you and very good! But then again, they may not be match sharp which may benefit us!
Green Ned, Sandro, Calker Isla, Barton, Fer, Taraabt, YSY Vargas, Austin I think I read somewhere that Sandro had played in the middle of a back 3 at Spurs, Barton to play the holding role. Zareta on after 60 mins to liven things up..... At least this way we could pin back the Saints full backs, whilst pressing high up the pitch ...... Makes a change from 442 with no wingers.....
You realise we could finally see the return of the 4-2-3-1?! Much used at Spurs so would think Les is familiar and comfortable with it. -------------------------Green------------------------- Isla------------Dunne--------Caulker----------Yun ------------Barton/Sandro----Henry--------------- Vargas---------------Taarabt-------------------Fer -------------------------Austin-------------------------
I would put hoilet instead of Vargas and fer in the middle , Tarabt cutting in from the left mid position not wing ... What does Vargas do btw . I've seen flashes of brilliant ball control and movement but not much actual impact on games . Thoughts
I agree re Vargas. But I think we all know there is a player in there and he could come good anytime. It's very hard to judge players playing in a wrong system and out of position, with no confidence in a struggling team.
****, that was an obvious mistake. Isla is an absolute starter (can I have 12 in the team?). No, Barton, Ned or Tubby would have to make way. (Well spotted!)
