Or if we're really desperate, go four up with Aluko/Brady on the other wing and Diame/Ramirez in behind. Yeah ok, I've got my Roy of the Rovers head on!
Yes I did watch both games and the replays and I watched all the other games he played in and in my humble opinion, for a 10 million quid 'striker', he is lacking in the necessary qualities. I do not have an 'agenda' against 'strikers' or anybody else but all those fans who kept telling me that Altidore, Folan, Simpson, Proschwitz, Mclean, Graham and Sagbo would 'come good' must have something wrong with their eyes. They were all cr@p! Hernandez has a lot to prove and perhaps N'Dye can help him. It remains to be seen.
What necessary skills are they then? Because he seems to have everything other then consistency. Folan and Simpson where decent players in Championship. Folan was great in our promotion season in 2008. Simpson contributed loads to our team, his hold up play and the way he help build attacks was vital, he was played out of position as a number 9 when clearly wasn't. Altidore, Proschwitz and Mclean wasn't great, but they where hardly in a free scoring teams. You seem only judge strikers on there goal scoring record. You can go through the history of football and see countless examples of strikers being picked because they offer other things that help get the best out others players around them. You're in cloud cuckoo land if you think strikers will ever score more then 10 goals a season in the situation we're currently in. 1 in 4 over the season for a club like us at the moment is a good season.
Bit off topic but I've seen a lot of people on here & on twitter saying they wished we'd kept Long. I find that a strange one as he was actually very poor. Personally I prefer Hernandez, I know he hasn't set the world alight and he's missed a fair few chances, but he's still a young man and is playing in a foreign country with a very different style of football. Funnily enough Long scored 1 more goal in a similar number of appearances and when you consider that Hernandez was plying to Uruguay and back every other weekend as well as the fact he's just had a child, (not literally obviously), I think he'll do OK for us. N'Doye should hopefully take the pressure off him slightly though, I don't think we've ever signed a forward that on paper had all the attributes and experience to succeed in the PL. He's big, strong, quick and has a very good goal-scoring record everywhere he's been. He has to hit the ground running, if he does then we'll be safe no doubt about it as there's some garbage teams at the bottom. Leicester, Villa, Burnley & QPR look particularly bad and none of them have had a particularly good transfer window either.
Agreed. All 3 have had a poor jan window and lack much quality. Burnley tried hard but got knocked back on all 5 targets. In fact non of our rivals have improved that much. imo. O/T............ Wolves cancelled defender Roger Johnson's contract and he has today signed for Charlton as a free agent. How his stock has fallen since his Birmingham LC Final win.
If they get beat by Chelsea @ home on saturday and we do them then that is very much on. Villa lack any fight atm and one fixture that stands out on the final day of the season is........ ASTON VILLA v. BURNLEY. now who would die for the cause in that one in a winner stays up and loser goes down situation ??
IMO You've got to give Burnley credit, they've come up, not spent a fortune or put the club at long term risk, enjoyed there day in the sun and they've a decent shot at survival because they've a couple of things some rivals ( inc city) haven't and that's a strong team mentality and a consistant flow of goals.Worst case, they cop for the parachute payment and have a good dig at getting back up next year
Maybe, but they have far more fight at the moment. In a one off game when the winner takes it all that might be enough. Keeping Ings has given them a hope. But can the same players keep going for 38 games. ?
