For anyone who's interested, here's a list of all signings this window... http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/555831/January-transfer-deals-summary-Premier-League
This. You can't leave players un registered so if we have 25 players over 21 our squad is full and that's it. I'd guess our business is concluded anyway regardless. I find it bizarre that we didn't use up the loan spot. Our main target for it failed granted, but it sounds like it went tits up a couple days ago leaving plenty of time to bring another body in, even if it was just a promising youngster from a big club to help flesh out the ranks and offer somethibg slightly different. There must have been someone on the radar.
Just posted on the Lennon thread. If Everton have Lennon, we should have tried for McGeady on loan. Surprised this wasn't on the radar as Bruce also tried signing him in the summer.
The deal was in place but was dependant on Carlton Cole signing. On a completely different note, when I dropped the little un off at nursery this morning there was a Derby fan there dropping off his absolutely waxing lyrical about Tom Ince. Hope it turns out that way but couldn't help but hide a snigger.
As Hattie has said, the deal was dependant on them getting Cole, when that deal fell through, they withdrew from the sale of Brown.
Dunno whether it was tried but I would love to have seen that young striker from Man Utd, Wilson, brought here on loan, and that would have brought our number of strikers up to three, plus Hernandez, who I'm starting to think is more of a winger than a striker. But yeah you're right we should have been using our remaining loan spot, that could turn out to be the difference between going down and staying up.
Isn't that what people started saying about Sagbo once it looked like he wasn't much good as a striker?
Probably, but I wasn't aware until yesterday that the majority of games that Hernandez played for Palermo was on the wing, and that being the case it means that in reality we have, up until last night, had only one true forward, Jelavic, in the squad. No ****ing wonder we've struggled to score goals!
I wonder if we'll register Greg Luer and see how he does after a month at Port Vale. Anyone know much about the kid, can't remember anything about us signing him?
I've watched Hernandez, his movements, pace, positioning, first touch and ability to find the 'empty space' (all, more or less, necessities for a striker) and I mentioned some time ago that IF we had/got another striker I felt that Hernandez should be tried on the wing as he was sadly lacking as a striker. Regarding Sagbo, and I'm not harping on about it, but he is nowhere near this level of football in any position.
I know Bummers claimed this, but all of his goals from last season are on YouTube, as are his highlights and he's not on the wing in any of them, he was absolutely playing as a striker for them last season.
Really? It's been said umpteen times on here. I'd like to see him tried out on the wing, see what he brings to the table.
You clearly didn't watch the Everton game or Leicester game. He has ability and hasn't been consistent for various reasons. But then it wouldn't fit your agenda against every striker we've ever had.
I didnt see him last season in Serie B, even I dont watch that....but in Serie A he was almost exclusively used as a wide attacker. FACT. If we signed him cos of how he did in Serie B rather than Serie A then it was a bit bloody stupid. And if you look at Stuart Elliott's highlights how many headers did he score or shots from the middle? Yet he always played on the wing. It doesnt mean you cant drift into where the action is.
