Normally they say 40 points is the magic number to stay up. After a confidence boosting win against Burnley that means we need another 17 points. Looking at the fixtures to get 40 points does not look too hard at all. I've listed the remaining games and the points which would give us 40. Personally I think we will stay up and pass the 40 easy so I have been harsh in my predictions just to get to 40. My first attempt I had us to finish on 47 points. Game Predicted Points Swansea v Sunderland 0 Sunderland v QPR 3 Sunderland v West Brom 1 Man Utd v Sunderland 0 Hull v Sunderland 1 Sunderland v Aston Villa 3 West Ham v Sunderland 0 Sunderland v Newcastle 1 Sunderland v Crystal Palace 3 Arsenal v Sunderland 0 Stoke v Sunderland 1 Sunderland v Southampton 1 Everton v Sunderland 0 Sunderland v Leicester 3 Chelsea v Sunderland 0 Just for fun...

I'm looking for 12 points from the next 6 games and that will probably be enough to relax the tension a bit, then we have the obligatory donation of 3 points from the scum which will see us well safe. We will still continue to pick up points off the likes of Leicester & Palace and maybe the odd surprise here and there. I'm not worried and think we'll coast it.
Nothing like a win for raising spirits, as long as our players don't fall into the trap of thinking its going to be a cruise we will be OK but being Sunderland its bound to be a bumpy ride. This is a tough league and confidence is important, but we must park the bus away from home starting at Swansea.
Love your confidence MW! But how long have you been a Sunderland fan? When was the last we coasted anything but the beach down the road?
Since I can remember mate, first match in mid 60's as a kid, just gave up my season tickets last season but that was due to work commitments. Don't see what that has to do with it like, was just pointing out that we should be safe before end of season deadline day. Nowt wrong with a bit of optimism mate.
I hate to say i but I fear a real spanking from Swansea next week...they found some form at the weekend, we are totally inconsistent and many (if we try and win at Fulham) will have played an extra game mid-week...obviously hope I`m wrong
I personally think they will try to nobble JD knowing we haven't got much else in the scoring dept. DG to score the winner tho.
Totally agree MW, we should be safe before the last couple of weeks, but we are Sunderland and we don't do should-be's! I'm normally a very optimistic bloke, but this club has a perennial habit of draining optimism slowly, week-in, week-out, out of you!
Don't see it myself. It'll be tight but I can see us nicking a point, even though I agree, they've hit a purple patch.
You must say they carried a lot of luck on Sunday, lets see if we can turn the tables on them on Saturday it's doable imo.
Too true mate but there's plenty of winnable points to be had and with confidence high, a hard to beat defence and a new found optimism in front of goal, I think we should be OK mate.
I said a few ago that I was looking up not down. We've got a good run of fixtures coming up over the next 6 weeks or so, whilst a few around have done awful runs, so I'm quietly confident we'll be okay before the end of March. It was you're term "coasting" that struck a chord. It's not normally a word you associate with us! But yes, I think we'll be okay.
So Poyet will not bring in any more players just because we beat Burnley, he must be kidding. How many players will put in the performances over the next 7 weeks ? we look doomed now, and we will be lucky to win 2 home matches Soton and Newcastle and that is because they will have nothing to play for. So what if we had lost to Burnley ?, he would have brought in Lennon maybe and SHOULD have signed Borini.
We are 4 clear of relegation. If we get 17 points they will have to get 21 points. 4 wins should be enough but make it tight. Not giving points to our rivals is key.
