Think a striker in the Pelle mould should've been our number one target this window. Our entire attacking play revolves around it, he gets injured we then play a smaller quicker striker and have to change the way we play which is risky. Also I know Jan is notoriously a difficult time to buy but being sat in the top 4 with a half decent chance of CL qualification and (presumably) having a fair bit of cash in the bank still from the summer sales it would have been good to get in a couple more to really give us a shot. After all (no matter how much TSS says it isn't a one off) this season most likely is a bit of fluke and we need to do everything we can to make the most of it
We looked but it wasn't happening. No point buying a random striker if you are keen on one you may get in Jan.
I appreciate that they were looking at targets like Locadia and Vilhena, I just think that if they really wanted them then they could've got them. It may have meant over paying for them at this point in time, but if they really thought that they could be the difference between a 7th placed and 4th placed finish then I fail to see why they wouldn't just get them in. It hasn't been a terrible window or anything, just think we could've done slightly more to really try and cement our position in top four this season.
OptaJohan @OptaJohan 25m25 minutes ago 3 - Tadić (73), Pellè (63) and Djuricic (57) were in the Eredivisie top 6 of most chances created from open play in 2012/13. Trinity.
Tbh, I don't think that the management considers the top four a particularly realistic proposition, hence the lack of spending to cement it.
That wouldn't surprise me as it seems to be the over whelming consensus with most people you speak to. But surely they could take a calculated view based on where we are in the league, cash in the bank etc and make that call. If that is what they did (after all we would never know) then fair enough, they have done enough for me to trust them, just slightly disappointing that is all
I don't disagree, but it seems that they're either much more confident than I in our ability to renew the squad annually off the back of departures, or much less confident in the current grouping as being one/two players away from snatching a spot in the top four.
Dear MoPo - is that £20 million still burning a hole in your pocket - we can chuck in a free pair of crutches!!!
