CELTIC stars Virgil van Dijk and Scott Brown last night sank the boot into Rangers after their side’s 2-0 League Cup semi-final stroll .

The Dutch defender branded the day-out at Hampden as “easy” while skipper Brown reckons keeper Craig Gordon, who didn’t have a single shot to save, caught a couple of crosses to ward off boredom. Ronny Deila’s troops were never out of second gear after early goals from Leigh Griffiths and Kris Commons as they cantered past their Glasgow rivals in the first clash between the clubs in almost three years.

Van Dijk said: “It was an easy game, to be honest. You know at half-time they are going to throw things in the box with a big striker coming on, but we dealt with it well and they had no chances against us. “I thought about the game a lot over the last few days. “I thought if they started with a tall striker, they would try and hit him, but they started instead with Kenny Miller and I knew they would sit back and try to hit us on the break.

“It was quite predictable and we dealt with it, especially in the first half. “Maybe it was the easiest Old Firm game.”

Brown also felt the task of booking a final date against Dundee United was simple and said: “I felt we were in control of the game from start to finish.
‘They didn’t bother Craigy Gordon at all. He came out and caught a few crosses just because he was getting bored, to be perfectly honest. <rofl>

“He’s gone through 90 minutes and not made a serious save. That tells you how much we dominated it. “Especially on that pitch, which couldn’t have worked out more for Rangers than it did, we’ve got to be pleased.

“We were trying to pass the ball but it was bobbling about which made it hard for us. We managed to battle as well which showed you what a good team we are becoming. “The first half was really comfortable. We knew as soon as we were 2-0 up that Jon Daly would be going up front. <laugh>

“We’d already planned for that at half-time so we were a step ahead of them there. We just knew they were going to go front to back. But as soon as they did that, we were winning everything. So it was great for us.”
