If thats all you care about, I'm sure I could find you a 22, 21, or 20 year old ENGLISH striker from Rotheram, Plymouth Argyle or Stockport for even cheaper. Just like Ings, they will be sh!t
Why is he ****? He scored in the Premier League and if he leaves Burnley get relegated, that's a massive player for them. I care about players who can bring quality to Liverpool. Players in the teams you selected clearly couldn't do that. Ings has scored in the Prem and can score for us.
Ings isn't title challenge quality (yet anyway, who knows about in 4 years time) but what he does offer is a style of forward that suits us more than 3 of our other strikers. He might not be a bigger name than Balotelli or sound as exotic as Fabio Borini but if he was in our team he'd have outscored those 2 in the league given the games they've played for us. Yes he wouldn't be 1st choice striker going through 38 games but for say 15 starts and another 15 sub appearances I'd bank on him getting upwards of 10 goals for us. Not bad for a second striker.
I guess Ings would be something different to what we've got and what we've got hasn't been hitting the back of the net. Lambert has three goals, our top scoring forward.. after 22 games like and he's hardly played. #givelambomorestarts
Ings is good for the squad. But how many squad players will we continue to sign? We're amongst the highest spending teams in world football over the past 10 years. We waste a lot on squad players.
Normally I'd agree. Always of the opinion that we should be buying 1 (or 2 if finances allow) top class first team players better than what you've got and the current first team players become squad players if they don't step up. However, Ings although would only cost what a squad player would cost, he would be more than that. He's better than 3 of our 4 forwards in the way that he meets our style of play more. I'd hope if we got Ings that we sold Lambert/Balotelli/Borini in the summer and then replace them with a 1st team player. Leave us with Sturridge & one other as first team strikers with Ings as back up / potential first teamer.
Yesterday Ings looked very disinterested for Burnley and dejected when subbed on the bench. Say to me that he knows clubs are interested but the Burnley aren't looking to sell even if they lose him for free in the summer. Possible that he is trying a sulk to move away, suppose we'll see by tomorrow night.
Just had a chat with a mate on mine who puts up a reasonably good argument for buying him. - He's better than Borini and Lambert, which is correct. - He's out of contract so will be reasonably cheap/ low risk and either Borini/Lampbert could be used in exchange I think as back up for Studge and at a cost of say £6 million he would be worth a go. On the basis that we still buy a dynamic striker too and we certainly do not pay over £8 million.
He could be free in the summer if Burnley stay stubborn to. A striker quartet of Sturridge, a newby, Ings and Origi could give us fantastic strength and depth. The newby does not even need to cot £30m. Lavezzi and Teves could both be available and will give us that creativity.
Ings is a good back up. Nothing more really but he's a better option to have coming off the bench than Lambert or Borini. But we really need to be looking at first teamers. Can't keep buying squad players.
We've spent 10 years buying players that are "good squad players" "decent backup" "better than what's on our bench". None of these are good enough. How does Chelsea strengthen? They find the weak spot in their team (even if they're premier league proven, they replace with world class) and sign a top player. Whoever is in that role then moves down the pecking order, and whoever gets bumped off the bench is sold. Are we Chelsea? No, but we can do a whole lot better than Danny Ings. A LOT of players are better than Ings and Borini and Lambert, that would be willing to come for a fraction of the English premium. What do we want to be? The best out of the British-focused teams (be that 5th,6th,7th), or the best team in Britain? I know which I'd rather.
The other point about his signings its another player with next to NO experience of winning/top level football at our club. This policy of only signing youngsters with little or no experience is hampering our ambitions to be a regular top 4/title challenging club. We'll probably get rid of Gerrard, Balotelli, Lambert & Enrique in the summer and replace them with 18-22 year olds and act surprised when our team looks clueless and constantly make basic errors and keep repeating the same ones over and over.
i am unsure about the policy remaining totally. I do wonder if the comments made in the media saying rodgers called for top players in the wake of gerrard leaving. For me there is very little more to be done out of young players in terms of improvement to LFC. We will end up like arsenal selling them on as the success is always just a while away if only we can keep them but they all want success now. I can see a case for say half the signings being such but if you have a 25 man squad... LFc have plenty of players right now... plenty of bad uns to move on and all. But in any event... 2 senior keepers 3 real right fulls including gerrez's favorite 2 left fulls albeit unimpressive as left fulls 4 senior CBs, 2 young uns and coates will have only 3 CMs including Can attacking midfielders we have ibe, stelring ,coutinho, lallana, markovic. Strikers we have 4.. well 5 if aspas even counts but only one good one. .. not even counting origi thats 25 or 26 players now the age profile is quite young and next year i would say Toure, johnson and lucas are the senior players and then Henderson, sahko, mingolet and sturridge are players who i'd have to view as in their mid 20s and should be the main stay of the side despite how mingolet is inimpressive. (ive not even put in lovern here) the issue for me is senior leaders will or should be lucas o nthe pitch... thats it. LFC need one or two really good leaders who are top players to have a team IMO.... Arsenal have added those in ozil and sanchez and ramsey is stepping up there. mertesacker and others are also experienced players. they will i think improve and have done over previous years. I would prefer LFC let 4/5 crappy players go like balotelli, lambert, borini, aspas, coates go for whatever and we go find ONE forward and one midfielder to really hang our hats on and be done with it. LFC really have enough players to not talk about squad but need to talk about quality seriously.
Just checking who you mean here... Migs & Jones Johnson, Wisdom and Flanno...? Mankiller is here on loan so no guarantee for next season. Enrique & Moreno Toure, Skrtel, Lovren and Sakho...? If you're including Mankiller at RB, is Wisdom here or RB...? You name Coates, Ilori is one of the young ones, who is the other (if not Wisdom)...? Which three of Henderson, Lucas, Allen and Can do you mean...? what's happening to the fourth...? You listed the attacking mids anyway Sturridge, Balotelli, Lambert, Borini...? Plus Origi and Aspas who you named.
Yes. when i say 3 real RBs yesyou have them so.... manquillo is on a 2 year loan. i cannot see atletico recalling him for what he's done hasn't been amazing either the 2 young cbs... ilori is one and wisdom is the other. I forgot joe allen existed thankfully. so yes maybe there should be 4 for strikers, you actually named 5 plus origi if we said 3-4-3 is the way to go and wrote a squad out i think 3 strikers is enough with more wide forwards. thats why i think Sturrigde, origi AND another top signing who can take a wider role if asked would be good.
"Hearing Burnley striker Danny Ings signed pre contract terms last week with Real Sociedad. Yet to be confirmed but source is reliable." Ings is 22. You need to be 23 or older to sign a pre-contract.
