I was joking, but that Post I made last week about the Bruceisms we will here if he doesn't sign anybody will be scarily accurate...
Tomorrow could be one of the most important days in recent history. Mike Phelan coming in will be a MASSIVE bonus for the club, huge experience in the game and will definitely give us a better chance at staying up. Transfers... If Bruce/Phelan/Allams can pull a few rabbits out of a hat and sign 2 really good players, like a Lambert or Lennon on loan, or possibly someone who hasnt been suggested yet (a loan from man-u would be nice Phelan)
I think we've already made our biggest signing in terms of likelihood in affecting a turn-around in our form, and that's Mickey Phelan. We already have the players to easily survive in this league, it's a question of getting them to perform as a team. For those interested, there was an interesting report in the telegraph today where Mark Hughes was discussing Aaron Lennon. He said he would have entered into negotiation with Spurs for his services but for the fact that Lennon had already decided which Club he would be playing for next. Make of that what you will.
I'm not sure about Lennon, he's a good player although his final ball/delivery isnt the best. My main problem is if he comes he's coming to play so what happens to Elmo? bruce still thinks he's a RB and he clearly isn't
Problem is, (and nothing against Lennon here) most of the team suit a 352, but then we bring in someone like Lennon and it disrupts the shape of the rest of the side. We don't have any fit defensively capable full backs, nor do we have the energy in the middle of the park to get away with 2 in the middle of midfield. This has been a problem going back to the summer with the recruitment of wingers and then trying to find a formation/tactics to suit.
Or we could try attacking teams at home with Lennon in the side , rather than worrying about containing them and losing !
No, but he is a well connected journalist. I think it's a very fluid situation with Lennon that could go right to the wire.
I just don't get why we want Lennon so bad, he is not the type of player we need, we need some grit in midfield.
Because he's an England international, a proven PL Player and a far better talent than most of our squad? Why wouldn't you want him? Half our problem is we don't create as much as we should, I'd say it's exactly what we need. Which makes people's claims of "I'm not bothered" even lamer/hilarious.
