tomorrow ...will it be a damp squib? or will there be a few surprises in the offing? ... will Redknapp be doing his usual his in-car interview?
Not fussed TBH. We have talent already, but is it being used correctly? Step forward E. Giaccherini...
Lennon is having second thoughts about Hull, proving he's smarter than the average pigeon-brained footballer! I'm hoping he's heading our way so I've gone for more in. That's one hell of a small straw being clutched at.
Mavrias going but I can`t see his wages making a huge difference. Not keen on loans but not utilising the space seems a waste.
Juventus and Sunderland plot shock move for League One striker BY SAM ROURKE ⋅ FEBRUARY 1, 2015 ⋅ POST A COMMENT FILED UNDER DE GIROLAMO, JUVENTUS, SHEFFIELD UNITED, SUNDERLAND Juventus and Sunderland are eyeing a shock move for Sheffield United striker Diego de Girolamo, according to the Daily Star. please log in to view this image De Girolamo is attracting interest De Girolamo, 19, looks set to leave Bramall Lane after failing to agree a new deal at the Sky Bet League One club, and this has subsequently alerted Serie A giants Juventus and Sunderland to the striker. The striker joined has been at the Blades his whole career, however has found first-team opportunities hard to come by at the club. De Girolamo enjoyed two separate loan spells at Sky Bet League Two side York City this season, amassing four goals in eight appearances for the club. The forward has featured for the Italy national youth team from under-18 level up to under-20 level, and he could be set for a bright future in the senior squad. The 19-year-old was not in the squad that faced Swindon Town on Saturday, and ultimately looks set to depart Nigel Clough’s team either in this window or the summer. Sheffield United defeated Swindon Town 2-0 at Bramall Lane on Saturday, courtesy of two goals from winger Jamie Murphy. United manager Nigel Clough was pleased with the Blades performance, after speaking to BBC Sport: “They were a little bit rusty at times, one or two of them haven’t played an awful lot. “But they got through the game and we just about deserved it. “Both different goals, but the desire of Jamie to run ,and really sprint, to get in the box on both of them.” Share this:
West Ham and Sunderland are reportedly planning a move for Galatasaray defender Aurelien Chedjou. The report from Turkish source Net Gazete both Premier League clubs are keen on bringing in the Cameroonian from the Turkish giants before the Transfer Window shuts tomorrow evening. The former Lille man however is a wanted commodity. It is reported by the same report that Gala are also fighting off the advances of Rennes, Dynamo Kiev and an official bid from French side AS Monaco. Chedjou joined up with Gala in 2013 and has become a regular in the Turkish club's back line in the past year. West Ham are sweating over the contract of Winston Reid, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham in the summer by The Mirror this weekend. Meanwhile Sunderland are battling relegation. The club could do with defensive reinforcements, with veterans Wes Brown and John O'Shea currently their leading defensive options and Sebastian Coates in reserve, Sunderland could certainly do with top quality reinforcements. Chedjou, who has recently returned from a disappointing campaign with the Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations, has played 22 games this season, scoring two goals for the club.
I think we are done May have been a differnt story if we could have shifted graham and Cabral but they are obviously sitting tight and enjoying the £££ we generously agreed to give them
I can't see any more coming in. I disagree Graham is sitting doing nothing. He puts himself about when he comes on, looks sharp and is trying. Cabral is a mystery to me. He looked good against Fulham. Good pre-season. Came with a good pedigree....??????
I for one am glad we might actually have a transfer window where we are not looking at replacing half the first team. We may yet develop some squad continuity.
I reckon we're done. Mavrias going may allow a similar squad/development player in - this kid from Sheffield perhaps (a defoe replacement in time?j - he can keep Giacc company. Otherwise i don't see it and we should have enough in the ranks to stave off the relegation threat earlyish. Summertime: 4 out, 4 in. Cabral, Coates, Brown should/could be gone Attacking-mid, Centre half, utility defender/left-back in their place If we can trade and improve on Graham and/or Fletch, I'd be happy too.
I'd say no, our defence has been pretty solid all season and will remain so, our problems lie at the other end
POSITIVE injury news on Lee Cattermole is likely to scupper any last-gasp transfer moves from Sunderland, short of the Black Cats receiving an “incredible” offer for any of their players. Boss Gus Poyet has stressed that he expects Jermain Defoe to be the one and only new arrival at the Stadium of Light during the January transfer window, and that still looks to be the case ahead of the deadline. Sunderland still have one Premier League loan available to them, but with the club close to its Financial Fair Play limits and Poyet happy with the squad, it is highly likely that there won’t be any last-gasp arrivals. Had midfielder Cattermole been facing a sustained spell on the sidelines, it could have prompted Sunderland to make a late move in the transfer market. But Poyet is hopeful that the 26-year-old, who is yet to play in 2015 due to groin and knee problems, will be back in the fold within three weeks after seeing a specialist on Friday. Poyet said: “It is decent news on Lee. I was a little bit nervous. We were ready for the worst. “It was important we had clarification before the transfer window finished. “If it had been bad news and a long-term injury maybe we would have had to move quickly. “He’ll rest for four or five days and then slowly start training. The specialist is positive he will be back without any problems.” Since Defoe’s signing, Sunderland have been working to offload those considered surplus to requirements, principally Cabral and Greek international Charis Mavrias. Mavrias put the finishing touches to a return to Panathinaikos over the weekend and a loan until the end of the season is due to be confirmed by both clubs. The 20-year-old, a £2million arrival at the Stadium of Light 18 months ago, was watched by scouts from Celtic and the Championship last week, but has opted to return to Panathinaikos, despite a more lucrative offer from another interested party. But Poyet says any further departures – which would inevitably prompt Sunderland to consider replacements – will not be welcomed. “I hope I have the same squad after the transfer window shuts,” he said. “People are telling me to switch my phone off and not read my emails because that’s the only thing that can change it – an unexpected, incredible offer for one of my players. “If it was impossible to say no, that’s different.”
I like this to be honest, I think we have what it takes to coast it through to the end and firmly believe that with Defoe settling in and getting more and more match time, the goals will come. Not only that, but he will bring the other players in as well, whether it is Wickham or Fletcher or even Graham, the goals will come. Our defence has got us where we are now and without them we would be right in the clarts by now, apart from the blip against Southampton, they've been pretty good IMO. Don't forget, they've done this with stand-in fullbacks as well and we now have a fully fit defensive line up to choose from with two very competent wing backs to boot. Only injury worry at the minute is Catts but the club have said he is OK and just needs to take it gradually, around 3 weeks before he is back in the fold. Great news, no Op needed. I think we're in a good place right now and not even remotely concerned about relegation.
