Yeah, we are so light on strikers and there seems no appetite to recall Burns, so I guess his time at the club is up. I think it is a big gamble with so much of the season left.
I assume that when the window closes we can still make emergency loans? With all the last minute signings by big clubs, it is quite possible that a player who was required as cover "if you cannot sign Danny Ings" for example, will then be freed up once Ings, or Austin, or however sign. So better quality players may become free after the deadline. Just a thought...
I just hope the 2 Steves are on the same page because fortunes can turn in an instant and losing Matt will definitely change our playing strategy just by the change in the lineup. Quite often when a player is no longer available for whatever reason time is needed to reassess formations and that has to be done during playing time. On the other hand new players will take time to gel and the thought of having to go through a play-off scenario doesn't fill me with confidence. The match today against Fleetwood could be an unexpected minefield after the heady heights of the last 2 cup fixtures.
As I've just put on another thread it's critical that we get this right because if we don't it could spoil the entire season if we're back to Wilbs and Agard and something happens to one or both of them

Burns is not good enough,we need another striker when smith goes back,this could all end up messy,remember a certain year sometime ago,it cost us big time.
well thankful to Smithy, and what hes done for us, but i dont want us to make the same mistake we made with GJ and Adebola, by starting to just hit long balls to the BIG front man and STOP playing football, dont think we will but its at the back of mind.

I think (hope) he is expecting a few decent players to become available at the 11th hour, and he might dip in if its the right person. No point in us just getting 'cover' if they are journeymen pro's looking for a nice Wembley day out. And they have to suit our up-tempo, passing style to feet.
