Would he sign and could we afford his wages,if so should we put a offer in before Monday and buy him if Fulham would sale.

Over to you Steve Lansdown £750.000 seem to be the figure banded about.

My understanding is that we, nor any other club can sign him permanently. He cannot go anywhere else on loan.
Rules are that a player cannot sign permanently for more than two clubs per season.

We probably could sign him permanently, but as far as I understand, he still couldn't play until June

No the only thing we can do is agree a price and he will then sign in June, as you can't sign for more than two clubs in a season.
The only way he could of carried on till March was by loan by extending the loan to an emergency loan.

We could of offered 750k or 3 million he still could not sign for us, and carry on playing.

Nice that Cotterill wants him to at least spend the day with us at Wembley

Can't sign him until the summer which I seriously hope we do. He's such a threat in the box it's unreal, would be a improvement on Wilbraham and we know he can make the step up to the championship.

It does seem a bit daft this rule in the current climate especially when you consider the amount of managerial changes a club could go through in a season!

I thought we looked very predictable last night due to the fact we were looking for the big man up front...no fault of Smith, I think he is a good player and think he would be a good addition to the squad.
What we must be careful of, is getting into the habit of long ball....
I'm not knocking the team or the management before anyone gets on their high horse, it's just an observation. We just need to make sure we mix it up a bit!

Every supporter knows that City lack a quality in the box striker. Fortunately the rest of the team have contributed greatly to the goals for column so far. We are now at the stage of the season where 3 teams appear to be breaking away and we must do all we can to burn one off. With the best defence in the league and a top notch mid field we must ensure that we have adequate goal scoring capabilities. IMHO neither Wibraham or Agard are dynamic scorers and Jet is always inconsistent and usually a luxury. It appears SC thinks we are good enough as we are I just hope he's right. I think we need another striker

I think we need another striker as well, and I don't think Cotterill has stopped this transfer window. The radio presenter last night asked him about Wilbraham and he said he's on track. He doesn't seem to want to give anything away, and was pissed off that Lansdown mentioned Agard prior to him signing.

But back to Smith, I think it's a stupid rule and should become null and void if he didn't play much game time for the two clubs prior to the third. Can't believe if he goes back to Fulham they don't play him his seasons over already.

I read a comment from Cotterill today saying 'Agard needs to start to get completely match fit'.

No doubt he's right but I hope the ball sticks with Agard better on his return.
I prefer JET but to Agard every day of the week but hey, Cotterill doesn't get much wrong.
Perhaps it might be good for JET to have a short spell on the bench.
    It's a tough call.

Watching the match the other night with a savvy football friend of mine he pointed out something that he thought was a problem with the City squad. He said that Jet reminded him of Balotelli in that essentially he is a somewhat lazy and disinterested player that was a luxury we can't afford to play every game. His body language stinks and the odd occasion when he show flashes of brilliance aren't enough for me to include him in my starting eleven.

getting back to my thread about Matt Smith makes me wonder who comes up with stupid rules that neither benefit the player or any clubs involved in his employment. What is he going to do for the rest of the season, go back and warm the bench at Fulham or even worse languish in the reserves? I think the best interests of Matt would be for him to continue his loan at Bristol City and return fully match fit to Fulham at season's end and then go from there. What happens if we have another need for emergency replacement players, just go out and start all over again or is that option closed for the rest of the season?

I'm sure that if we sitting amongst the so called elite the rules would bend but down here where we live we get caught between a rock and a hard place and meanwhile Matt and Bristol City have to bear the stupidity of the people who run the show that are supposed to have the best interests of the game behind their decisions - PHOOEY!

Seems crazy, Hatem Ben Arfa who joined Hull from Newcastle on loan this season fell out with Steve Bruce and then signed for Nice. FIFA are not letting him play for the rest of the season even in the U21 development league. Is this a new rule because I never remember hearing of it before

Pretty sure that you are only allowed to be in a contract for a maximum of two clubs a season, has been in for as long as I can remember.
But the emergency loan allowing the player to play for a third is relatively new. Possibly changed when they changed transfers to transfer windows.

Even one of our previous players (even though he was crap) , and Matt Smiths parent clubs have been in this situation before

See that Sky Sports says that Sheffield United and Preston are in talks with Doyle. Not even a mention of BCFC. Lets just hope and pray something is going on somewhere.

I am a little worried at this situation tbh, in recent weeks Smith has been pretty much our only source of goals, and we have started playing to his strengths, which is good now, but can they adapt back to a different style for Agard come March when we really get to the business end of the season. I would like to see another striker in before the window closes, as I don't think ( based on evidence so far this season) that Agard is the man, and Wilbs as well as he has done is getting on and injuries take their toll in terms of recovery time, if he got injured over the April mass of fixtures we are screwed for the run in, and this season will be tight and we need good strikers all the way to the death. I trust the 2 Steve's, but am a little worried this may all blow up in our faces. Anyone else remebering the Shaun Goater. Situation......

And a bit like 1990 when Bob Taylor did his hamstring and we handed the championship to NLBR.
