We got rid of big earners with Jay, and Chopra, and Burke wasn't on peanuts plus we were contributing a wack to Craigs wages plus MM is on less than DJ was reputed to be earning.

You will find that like most businesses the budget will be in two parts, a capital expenditure budget for investment (players in a football teams case mainly) and a normal expenditure budget for day to day running expenses, which covers salary's from the tea lady's to the chief exec's and normal running expenses. With the high earners we have moved off the books, I should imagine the everyday budget is in the black. Any signing on fees will have come out of the capital expenditure (transfer) budget, agents fees normally come out of the player's pocket, and are usually paid out of the signing on fee, after all it's the players who employ them, although some players insist on the club paying the agents fee during contract negotiations..........although this is becoming rarer, especially outside the premiership.

I don't have any certain knowledge of the transfer budget, apart from the fact we have been assured there IS one, but the players we have signed so far won't have made that much of a hole in it. Conway, Cowie, Taylor and Earnie, probably on a decent salary fair enough.........but they haven't "cost" a lot up front IMO

No, I don't live in cloud cuckoo land swamp - Porthcawl actually, though some would say it's the same place.:emoticon-0105-wink:

I understand a lot more about the vagiaries of funding the acquisition of all sorts of assets than you give me credit for.

No wish to argue with you or anyone else on the Blue side, there's enough visiting pillocks for us all to sort out without resorting to insults between ourselves, but I do take exception to being patronised by one of my fellow supporters.

If you did misunderstand my somewhat less than subtle OP about the "frees", then I can understand your comment. Otherwise, may I suggest you just say so and we can forget the matter.

No apology needed at all swamp - you just cleared up the matter very nicely thanks. <ok>

As far as transmitting sarcasm through typed words is concerned, you'll have to live with me on that one I'm afraid - most on here know me by now. I can be a bit obtuse and go off at a tangent sometimes - even more so than Proph...........<ok><laugh>

No, it's because he is the only one with time on his hands, he mods as he sits painting his nails and picking out the dress he is going to wear, and then it's "DRAG ON PHILL"
