The telegraph this week published their "Dirtiest Footballers Ever in the Premier League XI" (see below) So who would be on your list from days gone by (including those that graced a City shirt)? Telegraph XI Peter Schmeichel Danny Mills - Jonas Olsson - Martin Keown - Ben Thatcher Joey Barton - Paul Scholes - Patrick Viera - Lee Catermole John Fashanu - Diego Costa http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...mier-League-XI-in-pictures.html?frame=3179342
Mark Dennis is a name that springs to mind - sent off 12 times in days when you could do virtually anything http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Dennis
As I go back a long way here are some older ones. John Giles - Leeds U Vinnie Jones - Wimbledon Eric McMordie - Middlesbro Peter Storey - Arsenal Tommy Smith - Liverpool Graeme Souness - Liverpool Tony Pulis - Gas Frankie Prince - Gas
Mike Thresher...only because he would always be covered in mud arising from his famous sliding tackles, he was always "DIRTY" our Mike...legend!
Not sure that many of the names listed were dirty,- hard yes, but they played in a different era. Today the likes of Chopper Harris and Norman Hunter wouldn't last 5 minutes if they played the same way, so the game had adapted. For us, Gerry Gow, I always considered pretty fearsome. Nobby Stiles is a name to add to the list though
You could add Shearer. Tommy Smith (Liverpool) John Giles (more subtle than Bremner but just as 'dirty') Thresher, Souness, Mackay, Harris, Storey, Dicks, Keane.... Duncan Ferguson Francis Lee could put it about Most Leeds players under Revie
Francis lee- known as lee wun pen- I remember the sending off with Norman Hunter- Absolute classic! Despite his reputation, I think I am right in saying that this was the only time he got sent off prior to joining us ( got sent off 3 times then)
