Very true. I rarely criticise refs as i believe they mostly make honest mistakes. But this season i've seen refs bottle it because of either the team or the player they are afraid of booking/sending off. Which disappoints me.
I think that's much more of an issue than ref's simply getting it wrong and it should really be easier to rectify.
Sky Sports News HQ @SkySportsNewsHQ BREAKING NEWS: Diego Costa charged with violent conduct by the FA for incident involving Emre Can. More on #SSNHQ Looks like he's going to be suspended for the Man City game.
Chelsea have just announced that they have cancelled their normal pre-match press conference, as a consequence of the Costa charge. Jose, stop being a knob.
Everything Jose does has a reason behind it. It's all part of his mind games. Still doesn't stop being a knob though.

Remember the refs only have one angle and one shot at seeing something in real time. If you are not sure whether a player dived then i know i wouldn't give the foul or give a card. I'm sure there are loads of occasions where they are not 100% sure. Hell even some of the challenges we see pundits and fans arguing over it when they've seen it umpteen times for those that would be deemed harsh for a foul or soft for a foul. How do you expect an official to get it right everytime. Officials are humans afterall and they have to try keep up with the game. In my opinion there needs to be more officials. I know i make bad decisions in football through lack of focus concentration when i'm on the football field and i'm knackered. Imagine what it must be like for officials that are meant to be near the ball. Especially if the pace is fast or theres a lot of hoofball (i.e. they are miles away how they meant to see anything clearly). You don't expect Cristiano Ronaldo to be in attack and defence, why are we expecting our referees to be?
Come on, a shot like that means nothing. I'm not disagreeing with you about the intent (its costa, he's a thug) or with the whole clip (i think he has done it on purpose), but a photo like that isn't necessarily incriminating. You could do that for most challenges
Exactly. I can never understand the outrage when a ref misses something. It also seems to have become cool among pundits to blame the linesman for not seeing everything in their half of the pitch, as if they aren't busy enough already with offside calls. However, some of the arguments used to defend refs are illogical. All this about super slow-mo. No one's asking them to see everything. It's the bottling of big decisions, going easy on a player because he's already on a yellow (in effect rewarding him for the earlier offence), giving a free kick when it's clearly in the box just to be safe (see Hernandez early on V Everton for example, ref obviously thought it was a a bit soft and bottled the penalty). Always favouring defenders and goalkeepers in the penalty area. Letting defenders throw their weight all over the place to shepherd the ball out of play but as soon as the attacker tries to swing a leg round to keep it in they can't wait to give a free kick. And can someone explain what constitutes handball once and for all? Why does an offence have to be worse to award a penalty than to award a free kick anywhere else on the pitch. It's this stuff that drives people mad.
I wasn't suggesting he'd get banned because of that photo, I was saying he'll get banned because it was a stamp. I see Gary Neville has just tweeted that he thinks he'll get off.
Fair enough but you accompanied it with a snap of the photo to further your argument. A video would have been better. Maybe i'm being picky and that might not have been your intent so i will apologise for that
If the alleged stamps were so bad, how come neither of the assaulted players had to be stretchered off and are currently receiving medical attention for the vicious attacks? They might as well start charging players with glaring at each other.
After seeing the incidents (several times and from all angles) the lack of a serious injury was purely down to luck - Costa has a mean edge about him, nothing wrong with that but, he's a serial stamper, if he keeps on doing it then it's only a matter of time before the luck of the poor ****er stamped on runs out.
It's the intention of the stamp. Those bladed studs can quite easily cause cuts and injuries that take a while to heal.
Did they? Did either of the victims require a plaster and a kiss-it-better? No? Intent? We now have mind readers? I dont like Costa all that much, but this is a witch hunt pure and simple. Far worse is allowed unpunished every frigging game. It's the inconsistent way the rules are applied that I find irritating. Chester had his shoulder dislocated by what looked to me like a bad tackle, and seeing it after the game, I was certain the ****er meant to flatten Chester. Nowt done. Nowt even said. How is that right?
There wasn't intent with Chester, just a challenge and a tumble that lead to an unfortunate injury. I had someone stand on my ankle at 5 aside 4 weeks before Christmas, the cut, right across my ankle bone has only healed in the last 10 days - it should probably have had stitches. They were wearing bladed studs - they are ****ing lethal. There's no way that the Costa stamp was anything other than intentional, why the **** would you shorten your stride pattern to ensure you're going to stand on an opponent?
