Posted this on my own board and it statred a good debate thought I would spread it to others. News of the World and Sky Sports I am i alone in thinking about ditching Sky as a result of the activities of the News of the World over the taping of phones of victims of crime? Basically I can not see how the Murdoch press can be seen as a fit and proper organisation to own and run media out lets in the country. The footballing aspect of this is that if we all dump Sky, then Sky dumps footbal what happens to the income to the clubs. A number of high profile companies have already indicated that they will not advertise in the papers any more. Evebn with this hanging over them the Sun hid the story away on the inside pages and the times although it ran the story on the front page played it down more that the other papers. So much for a free press! The only publication I would miss for acurate reporting would be the Times the rest of the Murdoch press are rubish at getting their fact right any way. http://www.avaaz.org/en/murdoch_messages_2/?twi Stop the Murdoch Empire. We've got enough to do to get our board out for refusing to invest in our club and team for the coming season. The prospect of taking on News International and with it the football economy, may a bridge to far atm. Some of us on here will think a debate on the chances of pulling Murdoch down might be a bit too wishy, Washy! (Sorry, couldn't resist... )
I take it that you will include Mittal in your list of reprehensible characters? Do a little research before chucking names around, "Saviours" soon turn out to be "sinners".
Sorry, but this is a stupid argument. Sky have not been involved in the phone hacking at all. So even if (when) the takeover of BSB is rubber-stamped, all you're doing by ditching Sky is a) losing the ability to watch the sport; and b) probably causing the forced redundancy of a large number of totally blameless people. And what would you do otherwise? Go with Cable? Virgin buy sky Sports for their platform, so all you would achieve is to cause yourself some hassle and not affect Sky's revenue by one penny. Freeview? so few channels, you'd soon be either reconnecting or going with cable, then you're back to square one. If you don't want to buy the NOTW or the Sun, then that's fine. If you want to voice your opinion to Murdoch that he needs to clean up his tabloids, also fine. But ditching Sky? That's just plain dumb and would make no difference to him whatsoever.
NotW to close - last edition this sunday: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ler-phone-hacking-Rebekah-Brooks-country.html
Just announced on the BBC, Sunday's NOW will be the last edition of the paper. Nice one but sorry for the people who will lose their jobs. Now for the Goons!!
I bet they all end up on the Sunday edition of the Sun. Which make me think we should not buy that either
MichaelWhite MichaelWhite by JimFrayling News Corp still lying. Closing the NoW will allow them to streamline the operation, save cash and launch the seven day Sunday Sun
The Hacks got what they deserved,i sympathise with the innocent people who will lose their jobs, even though i'd bet they run the Sun seven days a week. Also fed up of hearing on talksport about "the loss of a great football report"..its just like people saying that Hitler created a great road system!
