As we're getting to the end of the window we're probably about to be bombarded with suggestions as to who we could or should sign and who could be going anywhere else.

Firstly, we're allowed 2 domestic loans and as many foreign loans as we want in our squad. We are only allowed to make long term loans.

1 domestic spot is currently Ramirez. He's played for us and Southampton already this season so he's only going to be going anywhere if either Southampton want him, or someone wants to buy him who plays in a league that runs January-December rather than our July-June (they can get dispensation since we'd be the only club he's played for "this season" if you look at it from their point of view). Argentina run the same footballing year we do so that rumour is a no go until the summer, but an MLS club for example could sign him anytime up until the end of their transfer window. Presumably we'd need to agree to any recall/sale now as I'd expect any recall clause to have been for early in January rather than the last week.

The 2nd loan spot could be anybody so long as it's not another Southampton player. (you're only allowed one player from any one club at a time)

    Now for players:

Powell has played for Man U and Leicester this season so he's not going to be joining us as he's only able to make emergency loans to Championship and lower clubs. (lovely of the Daily Mirror to pay attention to these things when linking us with him today)

Sagbo has played for us, and Wolves on an emergency loan so he's free to go anywhere. The same applies for Figueroa and Ince with their loans.

I expect we're doing everything possible to offload Sagbo and I expect Ince to go out on loan, but I expect us to hang on to Figgy until the end of the season now.

It looks like we're after a permanent striker and a loan winger, N'Doye looks to be the striker and Lennon seems to be the winger, though I'm not sure that latter is all that keen.

It seems Sagbo can only go out on loan in the Championship, under foreign FA rules he's already played for two clubs and can't play for a third(only here do we have different rules for emergency loans), hence Bordeaux withdrawing their interest.

I'd be surprised if that was the case. I'm sure Liverpool had a young Danish keeper a few years ago that they loaned to a L1 or L2 club for a month or two at the start of the season and then he went home in January. If FIFA are going to count Ben Arfa playing for Newcastle's U21s as a club I'm sure they'd count that keeper's appearances for the Liverpool 2nd team that year as well. It was maybe before the Reserves league was scrapped and the U21 league replaced it, but I'm not sure what difference that would make.

It hadn't occurred to me that this might be case, but it's what it says in today's HDM.

The rules seem to be tinkered with as they go along rather than having some kind of coherent logic as a template.

I think it was Martin Hansen and you're right, I think he went to Bradford.

    We'll soon find out.

Remie Streete has played for Newcastle U21s (he scored twice against Arsenal in September) and Port Vale on an emergency loan. He's just gone and joined Rangers for the rest of the season.

If FIFA allow it, as we know Newcastle U21s count then we'll know emergency loans still don't count. If they block it then we know they do (unless it's blocked because he was an unused sub for Newcastle's first team).

I think (don't quote me on this) that the 2 club a season thing doesn't apply to goalkeepers. I don't think emergency loans do either.

PL clubs can now ONLY sign up "free agents".

Sagbo looks like he will be hear until his contract ends in the summer.

Wud even Blackpool want Sagbo now ?

Goalkeepers wouldn't be an exception to the 2 club rule (I can't think of a reason to make them an exception), but emergency loans could be.

They definitely don't count for moves within England, but it was reported Bordeaux pulled out of taking Sagbo because his Wolves emergency loan would count for an international move (we're the only country that has them so the idea is other countries/FIFA wouldn't have a separate classification for them so they'd be treated as any other loan). I don't think that's right and Mike Ashley seems to be confident it's not.
