I'm not ignorant, particularly on this subject. A cursory glance at my username might indicate I insight into all things Cypriot.

What's sorted? We're pretty much where we were but with a hint of press speculation.

Not really even press speculation is it? Isnt this all from a Burnsy tweet? I think I have as many sources in the club as he does.

Well he works for the press (and the Demba Ba link was also in the press). It was Buckingham's follow-up tweet that clouds the whole thing in mystery.

High street shops the length and breadth of Britain will begin accepting euros in 15 days' time.
The move comes even though the UK has not joined the single currency.

The stores include Marks & Spencer, John Lewis, Body Shop, Dorothy Perkins and HMV.

While some household names will take the euro in stores near airports and ports, many are happy to accept them in shops all over the country.

Critics say it is another example of 'eurocreep' - Government attempts to introduce the currency by stealth even though most voters are against it.
But a major Daily Mail survey has found that one in three major British retailers will accept payment in euros from that date.

In the most comprehensive research yet undertaken into the effects of the euro on Britain's High Street, we found that 32 out of 105 leading retailers will take the euro. They include Marks & Spencer, Virgin, Debenhams, John Lewis, Habitat and BHS, which will accept the currency nationwide.

I think his source is the same as mine. If I worked for the press this wouldn't be an issue

There's literally nothing anywhere to substantiate this Dame N'Doye signing.

Mine are saying that we may or may not sign someone before the window closes.

My other source Sterling Archer is probably Burnsys source since we all know Burnsy comes on here and reads our threads.

A great many stores in the West End will accept euros, you'll find a great many of them actually dual price the goods on the tags, I used to accept them in my Carnaby Street store but I stopped after my dopey staff accepted too many fakes.

Apologies Ern, very remiss of me, I'll make sure I use it next time.

I used to live in Woodgreen in the 90's, with two Greek Cypriot brothers, in flat just off High Street. One side of High street was all Greek Cyriot owned stores, on the other was Turkshish Cyriot owned stores and they literally never crossed the road. The property prices were higher on the Greek Cypriot side, but they wouldn't consider buying a flat on the Turkish side, there was real hatred down there at the time.

We had a kebab shop at the end of our street and I'm pretty certain that the owner was Harry Enfield's inspiration for Stavros. He was always laughing, calling everyone 'peeps' and saying 'init' after everything. I ate far too many kebabs while I lived there.

That article is from when Blair was in power - it has his name in the article. It didn't happen. See the bbc article about the changing rates making it too hard.

A couple of tourist shops in the West End might, but the ones with prices are on are just that they have european stores. I've tried and asked about this. Your shop may have years ago, but to say you can pay in euros in London is crazy.

Anyway not a thread for this really...

Obviously the big stores accept them, Selfridges(nationwide), Harrods, Harvey Nic's etc, but there are a lot of smaller retaiers who accept them(particularly the more expensive they are).

Not just in London either, in Bournemouth they ran a campaign to get retailers to accept euros and 50 retailers signed up...

You've been able to pay by Euro in M&S across the UK ever since it launched. I used them in the Hull branch years ago.
