I can't afford a house in the south east and I've knocked back a few jobs there partly because of it. I feel bad for the poorer people who grew up there, have an emotional attachment and struggle to afford property - but I don't feel bad for immigrants who move there.
They should use the China housing solution, flatten whole areas of **** housing and build loads of 30 floor Manhattan style appartments. Who says we should have 90 houses scattered about when you can build upwards. Not those depressing 60's council towers like Glasgow though.
They did it well in Singapore too - 80% of the population live in public housing. I'm a bit wary of Government housing though, since I grew up in an estate full of 60's council towers like Glasgow and they all stank of pish.
