Adam Johnson is expected to return for Saturday’s Barclays Premier League clash with Burnley. The winger missed last weekend’s FA Cup tie against Fulham which ended goalless, but after returning to training head coach Gus Poyet expects the 27-year-old to return to face the Clarets. Speaking exclusively to safc.com, Poyet also revealed that defender Wes Brown is also pushing for a return. “Adam Johnson and Wes Brown both trained today [Wednesday] and everything is looking well. “Wes was out of training for longer and Johnno has been training individually, so he has been running a lot – I would think he will be 100% sure for Saturday but we need to see how Wes reacts during the next couple of days, especially with the weather conditions that we had today.” He continued: “I always try to think about the players I’ve got, because if you start thinking the ones who are missing too much you spend too much energy on it and that doesn’t help. “I would like to believe that the players who are fit can go and perform in the Barclays Premier League and win games, because win is the word that you’re going to hear from me most of the time now.” The head coach also provided an update on the fitness of midfielder Lee Cattermole, who has been absent since a goalless draw against Aston Villa in late December. “Lee is getting there slowly," explained Poyet. "It is a tricky injury because it is the type where if you make a mistake and bring him back too early you will go backwards. “Set-backs with these injuries are what you don’t want so we’re making sure everything is spot on.”
Good news all round, and Gus sounds as committed as we are, I am sure we will be up for this one. Haway the lads.
Be interesting to see where he plays Jonna - straight swap for Rodders with a mission to play as an advanced creative mid or as a wing back, probably right hand instead of Jones but will he be able to cope with the defensive side of the role? I hope he gives him a free role in the center in front of Seb and, from the sound of Catts slow progress, Bridcutt.
According to this article http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sp..._of_increasing_Sunderland_s_attacking_threat/ he'll be playing as part of the midfield 3. Not sure hbow reliable it is mind, doesn't appear to be any quotes from Poyet to back the claim up...
Catts injury sounds a bit more sinister than the club are letting on to me. If he's "getting there slowly" we're looking at a while before we see him in the shirt again. Knee ligament problem anyone?
If we play 3 at the back against Burnley we will get beat. Its got to be a back 4 and get AJ high up the pitch on the wing.
Love to know how you can say that Vegas. I watched us against Spurs and was quite impressed with it. If we play it and push on we will win. It's not the formation that's the issue, it's the way we played that was the problem. If we play with someone between the midfield and forwards (AJ?)
I don't care what we do in front of the back 4 as long as its a back 4. 442, 433, 4231, 451, 4312, 4141, 4222 and the list goes on. If we play 3 at the back it end up as 5 at the back and we will be playing for 0-0 again, probably lose 1-0 as ings will get a goal. We need to score at least 2 to win the game ad were not going to do that playing a back 5.
