You just asked two different questions though Cini - 1. What world class thing has he done ever. - Of which I'd argue he's done many things. and 2. What world class thing does he do every time he plays? - Which is where the argument seems to be, whether his consistency sufferes because of the severe injuries and constant niggling injuries he's suffered, or whether he doesn't perform consistently because he's rubbish.
OK... my answer wasn't all that clear. So... I suppose my point is that probably most players in the premier league do one or two things every now and then that you could construe as being impressive (and therefore things that could be termed 'world class'). But doing one or two impressive things doesn't make you world class, or even give you the potential to be world class. If the criteria for having the potential to be world class is just to do one or two things every now and then that look world class then most professional footballers would also have to be fitting that criteria. He looks quite good when he's played. Some fits of impressive player, some fits of festering turd. He looks like if he was fit all the time he'd be quite a good player. Nothing more, nothing less. I see no more evidence in him being potentially world class than dozens of other players 23 or under in the premier league. He's overrated by the English media.
Fair enough - my opinion is that when he's been fully fit and on form he's shown great class, but I think too often he's either been out for big stretches (like missing whole seasons), or has taken ages to recover from those, not being fully fit, and has suffered a lot of horrible niggling injuries on top of that. This has also resulted in him changing the way he plays, the way he goes into tackles or goes past players. But I think it's ridiculous to expect players (unless they are in the top 5-10 in the world) to do WC things every game when they are not fit. And (like Ramsey who wasn't fit from the start of this season until just before his injury) when fit Wilshire has looked very, very good IMO - he's drivng runs, linking up and short passing game are great, he was also tenacious as well - though since his big injury he seems to have lost this, lets hope he'll get it back.
Well hopefully with this long layoff for Wilshere, we should see him fully fit for next season and see what he's made of. Unfortunately for him, he has gone down the pecking order due to this, but i see no reason why he couldn't break into the team if he shows his class.
Again.. I think you are wrong. In fact to say he 'rarely dribbles past people' shows me your not even being subjective in your evaluation. He's had SEVERAL world class performances all weirdly against TOP opposition. The first one that really stuck in my mind was against Barca. (because he was soo young and it was against such great opposition) It reminds me of the critiscm Ozil has been getting (not to say Wilshere's on Ozils level yet) but its clear to me the quality is there even if the performances arnt always.(for various reasons - injuries/match fitness being one of them) This thread has been thoroughly derailed now.
Have you watched that video? In it he makes one or two dribbles in 8 minutes of his highlights. He makes some passes... most after picking it up from the centre halves and then doing short passes to whoever is nearest. Basically what Arteta does for us already and what Coquelin has done the last few games. He gets no assists and no goals. He loses the ball a few times in quite dangerous areas. All in all it's quite a good performance. And that's it. From three years ago. And that's one of his best games for us. I'm not criticising him. I'm saying people need to stop overrating him and value him for what he is. A good squad player.
