Reason for sacking - lack of being in the Premier League <laugh>

Wonder if we're still in for him.

would be nice... with him and Tiote in centre mid, we could have Bramble and Boumsong and keep clean sheets.

Wasn't his agent the one who said that all french players would want to come to us? Does not look that good for us signing him now.
Also the agent of Erdinc so hopefully that will give him more time to push through that deal.

No not really. Think of Rafa's 4231 formation at Liverpool when they nearly won the league back in 08-09, they had two midfielders back(Alonso/Mascherano), had a cracking AM in Gerrard, Benayoun RM and Riera LM & then Torres! What a fantastic team that was(remember them beating us 5-1 at St.James Park)..

    4231 for us(example) :

    Harper
    Simpson Taylor Colo Enrique/NEW LB
    Tiote Matuidi
    Guti/NEW RM Cabaye Mareveux/Ben Arfa(roating with Cabaye)
    Ba/NEW ST

Alonso was key to that formation with his ball playing skills. I think Barton would probably be better in that role than Matuidi, unless he can play that sort of role? Not watched much of him so cant really comment. Just assumed he was a DM a bit like Tiote.

Nope, Matuidi would be our Alonso IMO. He's like Tiote but more box-to-box. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blaise_Matuidi

. He primarily plays as a combative defensive midfielder often occupying a withdrawn position as a deep-lying playmaker and is described as a "fierce and strong tackler".

"his best aspect is his perceptive passing"; "Matuidi already has tons of experience and his strength and passing would brighten up Arsenal defence and attack"

Didnt realise he had that in his locker. Not as defensive as I thought. Fair enough then!

Would still cost a fortune which could/should be spent elsewhere as Barton can still probably play that role.

I think that's the plan. IMO Pardew's favoured starting XI right now is:

    Krul/Harper
    Simpson Taylor Colo Enrique
    Cabaye Tiote
    Barton Ben Arfa Jonas

I'd be quite happy with that team, would like barton in the team but with those wingers you wouldn't really want him on the right.

We would have absolutely no chance of signing him at the price bracket that has been mooted....
