we played well, matched them for most of the game, had chances but didn't convert them.

they have 1 great chance, back of the net.

you don't score you don't win

At the end of the day, 11 shots on target in the entire game and only 1 in the back of the net. Not Wembley worthy statistics those.

Mignolet tonight answered a few critics, got plenty left to do but a definite improvement tonight. Glen Johnson, Mario Balotelli and Ricky Lambert are all dogsh**e and offer absolutely nothing. Should have brought Lallana on to try and open the Chelsea bus late on. Hope Sakho's injury isn't too serious. Do not want either Lovren or GJ in that back 3. Lucas, I thought, was superb again. Really seams to have found his pre-injury 2012 form back.

Got to be just this game. You needed to win it when you had them under the cosh but finishing let you down <ok>

Agree with the first part. But I always felt that from their first or second game? Was it Everton where it was "you score we score" and ended 5-3 or something. They look vulnerable and I'm beginning to think Costa is a bit of a flat track bully. He is nowhere near Drogba's class.

I disagree about the second bit. You cant say you would have won bcos Chelsea always looked good going forward. Even when they wasted an attack you knew there was another one coming very soon. I thought you lost the midfield battle today.

When it suits, luv. You were the one who wanted BR sacked well before Christmas! I don't think this game was anything to write home about. We huffed and puffed and lost. Just like very game it was a 'oh but we almost scored! We almost won!' But we didn't. And that's what counts.

I think our transfer policy is broken tbh and there's no point having a philosophy when many of the players we have are not good enough to carry it off

Sterling will be the next to leave the club, then coutinho. Then what are we left with?

Sorry for the bad vibes, but I'm pissed off

Not quite what I said but he's far from the worse manager in the world and making us relegation candidates is he... he's got us in a position where we probably are. Competing with Spurs to break into the CL given our team.

We've conceded more goals because we attacked more. Give me a 5-2 win over a Mourinho 1-0 win every day of the week. Football is about entertainment, and he entertained us last year.

I suppose you think Redknapp was crazy for using Bale, a LB, as a striker? Or Ferguson crazy for making a winger in Ronaldo play CF? Or Guardiola for playing a winger like Messi who is 5ft 7 as a CF?

The whole club tried to get players to compete and replace Sturridge by having Borini/Lambert/Balotelli in there. Yes, none may be top class but did we really expect all of them to be THAT terrible?

Actually, that is completely Rodgers' fault. He had 70mill and 150k of wages freed up to find a replacement and goes for knockdown Mario and grandpa Rickie.
He knows as much as the bloke down the road that Sturridge will pick up an injury at some point and fails to sign a striker capable of doing the same job.
If your idea of replacements (potentially for injuries too) are the slow, cumbersome or lazy Balotelli and Lambert, you deserve all the criticism you'll get.

He has shown that he cannot plan ahead and can only react to what is put in front of him - which doesn't always work either.

And btw, a great many people complained when we signed Mario. The ones who didn't must have gone to the same school as the media where second lesson of the day is 'potentially world class but enigmatic players in Europe'.

First half you were good, beyond that it had an inevitable feel about it.

We're all pissed off but this tie always had Chelsea as favourites, if I could be ****ed I could find a hundred posts from our own fans saying we won't win this tie - we gave a good account of ourselves though and made Chelsea look ordinary for 85% of the minutes played.

Just seems like such a lack of support in here, Everyone just totally loses it when we don't win like we're ****ing Real Madrid or somin

Because 95% of the matches you play are 90 minutes long. To go 90 minutes (the normal length of a game) keeping a clean sheet away to Chelsea is a pretty good acheievement for us considering our normal defence form over the past year and a half.

By tonight's performance he won't be a great miss. If we get offered a huge amount by Madrid we should just snap their hands off. Especially as he stalling on a contract like he is Messi.

Because you know for certain that we didn't try and sign any other strikers?
Can you imagine if we hadn't have signed Balotelli or Lambert and went into the season with just Sturridge ^ Borini as the strikers.. people would be having a fit <laugh>

Yeah I couldn't see it happening after HT, we needed to score in first half when we were the better team, when you don't you get what you given

    <applause> Well said

We've gone toe to toe with the best side in the land at the moment and there was very little in it over two legs.

The striker problem can and will be put right. Have faith,we are playing good football and being consistent
