2 more long-serving players look to be on the out. Wes won't be missed by me too much, but John O'Shea has been a great service to the club thus far and having him on the bench covers around 6 positions if push comes to shove.
I'm surprised at Gibson, I'd have thought he'd be willing to take a wage drop for first team football. Well, more of it anyway.

<ok> While I would love Gibson to prove me wrong and start delivering, the lad is not Utd class and should leave to kick start his career.

I think the recall of Cleverley put's Gibbo's first team involvement in serious doubt

I will be very sad to see O'Shea and Brown go. Both players have been great servants to the club and great role models for the young fans because they never complained about being left out of the team and just got on with their jobs. Their experience, loyalty and work rate will be missed.

browns had his day but im gutted johno's leaving. if the likes of kuszczak, gibson, owen and even carrick to an extent are valued more highly than a consistant, versatile, experienced player like him than there is something wrong with football IMO.

Defenders: Rio, Vidic, Evra, Fabio, Rafael, Jones, Smalling, Evans and maybe even Gill. A lot of young players there and it is clear we are looking to the future. The twins have to got to improve their injury records though. However, I would have thought Ferguson would have been willing to have kept Oshea just in case. But it looks clear he will leave now. Brown was always going to leave though.

Good luck to Brown and O'shea who have been great servants for the club and wish them the best.

You see these 2 week in week out (well when they do get games anyway) so who would you say was the better defender Brown or O`Shea, I know O`Shea is more versatile and can do a job all over the back 4 and DM but which of the 2 is a better player.

Personally i think its Brown, but lots on the Sunderland Board dont rate Brown at all.

If Brown can stay fit and get back to his best he is easily the best of the two defenders. However I will be most gutted about O'Shea leaving as he is still a very good squad player for us.

Good luck to you boys next season.

I would say O'shea as he can play anywhere in our back 4 and played an important role in last year's title winning campaign when we had a few defenders out due to injury.

Cheers, like i say looking in from the outside here so havnt seem them play week in and week out, but Brown seems to be quick to the ball, can read the game well, has a good pass on him, yes troubled abit by injuries but when fit is usually top class, few mistakes here and there but name me a defender that is blameless week in week out.

O`Shea looks ponderous, leggy but slow, never really seen him get stuck in and do a well timed sliding tackle, doesnt read the game as well as Brown, and his passing out of defence isnt the best. only thing for me is he is versatile, but he doesnt excel in any of the positions.

O`Shea is a jack of all trades altough master of none. He wont revolutionise your team but he is a good player to have around and never does a bad job.

from a utd point of view,it was the opposite way around the last few seasons.
johnos at his best at left or right back,he likes to get forward and do a bit of crossing, also good with his head.an asset to any team.
