Just read on BBC that United are allowing Fletcher to leave fir free, this is the kind of player Monk needs for short term. Underrated player!

Good player and had to be, to be a regular in Utds starting 11 before his illness obviously .Age will be a factor now but for a short term addition we could do a lot worse.West Ham seem confident in getting him so it's the bright lights of London opposed to the unlit street lights of Swansea

    A short resume
Perhaps the greatest compliment that can be paid to Darren Fletcher is that he emerged as arguably as important a player as Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney at United.
Between 2008-10, the Scot deputised superbly for the injured Owen Hargreaves. Ji-Sung Park earned a big-game reputation yet Fletcher could never be accused of going missing against the elite, like Park did in two Champions League finals.
Fletcher's absence in the 2009 Rome final, due to a cruel red card in the semi at Arsenal, affected United adversely in the final against Barcelona as they failed to cope with Andres Iniesta and Xavi.
Two years on, with the Scot's ulcerative colitis beginning to affect his performances, Sir Alex Ferguson still had no alternative to marshal United's midfield and, nearly four years on, the team are still lightweight.
Frank Lampard once revealed playing against Fletcher gave him "tight hamstrings". The midfielder used to be indefatigable and indispensable.
"I love challenging myself against all the best players in the Premier League," Fletcher said in 2009.
"When we play them I say to myself, ‘Right, I’m going to see how good you really are. Fabregas, Lampard and Gerrard, I’m going to get against you and see how you like it. And when you’ve not got the ball I’m still going to get about you and see how you like it.’
"I’m going to ask them, ‘Do you fancy it? Do you like getting kicked? Do you like the fact I am going to be at you for the whole 90 minutes?
"As soon as you get the ball I am going to be in your face. You are not going to like it one bit. And when we have the ball I am going to run you into the corner and you’re going to follow me. Are you ready for that? Because that’s what’s going to happen’."
Fabregas - and Arsenal - certainly didn't "fancy it" and Arsene Wenger bitterly described him as "anti-football".
How unsurprising the Gunners crop up often in Fletcher's 10 best United performances.

He's only 30,so hardly over the hill.
It appears that several Club's are actively pursuing him.
He's on "a free",so he will go to the highest bidder.
Doubt The Swans' would want to enter a bidding war.

How is he now after his illness. Dont want to sound harsh dont want him if he is always going to be away ill. If he is over the illness and fully fit, would be a good short term signing.
