Am I some sort of snob?

Listening to the tv only 'football' fans at work talking of games and I find it amusing listening to them swap comments from pundits as if it shows they've a clue what they're on about. <laugh>

Anyone who bases their opinions on things people like Andy Townsend and Garth Crooks said deserve to be punched in the face.

totally agree they have no opinion of their own and everything they say has to be compared to a high profile club/player or game .

i have a mate who is completely encyclopedic about a payer & who he has payed for etc - if you slightly disagree with their analysis they quote pointless pundit

To be fair 'real' football fans who form their own opinions can sound equally ridiculous.

But at least it's their experience based opinions, not just parroting someone else that hasn't seen the game.

Not grammar errors though. Not even spelling errors either. Probably predictive text or a typo.

I find that so many people who claim to be football fans have absolutely no clue what they're going on about. Even 80-90% of people who go to football have no idea, some of the things I hear people shout at City absolutely baffle me.

It seems to be in the make up of almost every football fan to think you are the world's foremost expert on the subject, and anyone whose opinion differs from yours is a clueless idiot. Is it just a football thing?

To be fair, my stock answer to football questions is, "I'm ****ed if I know."

I've always thought having played the game at any sort of level entitles you to a opinion about it, even if you don't go to matches though it's true that the comments about our players you read on here that are way off the mark are usually from people who don't attend matches for whatever reason.

Ye i use this sometimes. Depends who's talking like. There's a couple of blokes in pub who always come over after a game and I just have to get rid of em as quick as possible cos theyre nearly arranging the glasses into players to show a move. Boring twats.

I have really played football. In fact the only match I can remember was when I was at 21st ave school and I left there aged 11. It was rugby league for me until I joined the Army and took to hockey.
So I try to steer clear of comments about tactics. I do find it funny though, sitting in the West Stand Upper, listening to the knowledgeable, shouting "forward".
I cannot give an expert view on a game, but I can say one thing, I enjoy every match that I watch.
For me football is a great spectator sport. I hate watching hockey!

Its a human thing, not limited to any subject. For a prime example, I think BojackHCAFCman is a clueless idiot, and he thinks differently so he thinks I'm a clueless idiot, despite all the facts and evidence backing up my opinion and disproving his.

It's just the way of the world.

I heard one tit on 606 say "you talk to any defender and they'll tell you..." and I thought, you haven't talked to any defenders ever, you've just quoted Alan Hansen.
