Found piece in Mail on same subject. Makes me smile how all the related bits on the web have a different slant on this depending on your viewpoint. I was happy that Clyne was at least considering a contract here...others take it to mean he will sign for United as he is dithering. Make your own mind up.

Why April? If he said at the end of the season I could understand that as he would be able to see who qualifies for the Euros but April?

 

Think Koeman/the club have said by April to help planning for the future. Saying it takes pressure off player being asked on a daily basis....he wishes. I do fell more positive...he's willing to talk is a lot better than forget it I have a done deal with United. Not horrified that this is about money...that's what negotiations are about. Willing to consider Saints' offer is good enough for me at the moment (though obviously signing a new deal this morning would be better ).

 

I don't always think 1 + 1 = 2 i.e. More money + bigger club = move. Don't pretend to know what is in Nate's head, but sometimes you just know where you want to be. It isn't always a foregone conclusion.

 

He's possibly also waiting to see if Man U can actually offer him European football next season, not that he'll know by April.

I hate it when players make out they want to leave it as they want to concentrate on football. Is it that hard that you can't talk when you aren't training? Not like they work 24/7.

Nothing is. Utd could buy a different rb who they think is better (I actually can't think of that many). It is still pretty obvious he is looking to see what offers he gets from other teams. Also he only said April because Koeman said it. If he didn't it would have been the old "I want to concentrate on football first and talk about the contract at the end of the season" line.

 

Deeply saddening to love a sport where loyalty to club is only as strong as loyalty to pocket.No one dreams of being a part of the next big thing, only of coasting along as part of the old big thing - no matter how ugly the behemoth of these clubs is.

 

I think we have to get used to being a stepping stone to players looking for a massive pay packet.
We can't pay big bucks with a small ground and an expensive academy so we can't expect players who's primary aim is to earn as much as they can to stick with us if they play well.
Our recruitment policy is essential, looking for players that cost £5-10m and sell them for £20-30m to muppets like Liverpool who think that if they play well for a little country bumpkin club like ours they will be brilliant for their massive money no object club. Not always the case eh Brendon
