How would you play it and who would you pick?

    Here are the personnel options in our usual formation;

    GK: Fabianski or Tremmel
    RB: Rangel or Naughton
CB: 2 from Fernandez, Amat and (possibly) Ash
    LB: Taylor or Tiendalli
DM: 2 from Carroll, Shelvey, Fulton or (possibly) Leon
    AM: Emnes or Oliviera
    RW: Dyer or Barrow
LW: Montero (unlikely to be match fit) or Dyer or Emnes
    ST: Gomis or Oliviera

We are looking thin on the ground at the moment. Can we get a result?

Fab, Naughton, Fernandez and Amat, Taylor, Carroll and Shelvey, Dyer, Montero, Emnes and Gomis.
    What is wrong with Routledge?

    GK: Fabianski
    RB: Naughton
    CB: Fernandez, Amat
    LB: Taylor
    DM: Carroll, Shelvey
    AM: Emnes
    RW: Barrow
    LW: Montero
    ST: Gomis

Although Barrow is not the best, unlike Dyer he at least tries to run. I would rather someone who tries than the attempt to skilfully pass the defender, fail, then throw arms up in the air Dyer.

Calf strain - out for 4 weeks :(

Looking quite bare at the moment really.....

I'd go with Swanselona's team there. Don't spose Rangel can play in Britton's role? I'd rather not see Shelvey playing tbh...completely lost faith in the lad :(

I like your lineup. I might even be tempted to put Emnes or Oli up top and slap Gomis onto the bench. Dependent on which wing is in posession either could help overlap. Would love a point but we all know what the form book says.

We did have a CDM option - Jazz Richards, it's the position he has played since a youth but he's in Fulham! Bonkers.

    Preferred ........................................................................... Expected
    GK: Fabianski -------------------------------------------------------- Fabianski
    RB: Rangel ------------------------------------------------------------Naughton
CB: Amat and Ash ---------------------------------------------------Fernandez and Ash
    LB: Naughton ---------------------------------------------------------Taylor
DM: Carroll and Leon -----------------------------------------------Shelvey and Carroll (or Fulton)
    AM: Emnes ------------------------------------------------------------Oliviera-
    RW: Dyer ---------------------------------------------------------------Barrow-
    LW: Montero -----------------------------------------------------------Montero-
ST: Gomis --------------------------------------------------------------Gomis (if he is still our player)

Have to agree. Can see how it will benefit him getting game time on loan, but he's never really been given a chance in DM...very strange.

I honestly wouldn't mind seeing Shelvey play the AM role, I think he is wasted playing so deep.

If Britton is fit, I would go with:

    GK: Fabianski
    RB: Naughton
    CB: Fernandez, Amat
    LB: Taylor
    DM: Carroll, Britton
    AM: Shelvey
    RW: Emnes
    LW: Montero
    ST: Gomis

If not, then Shelvey has to play, Fulton/Carroll would be too lightweight IMO.

    Fabrianski
    Naughton
    Williams
    Fernandez
    Taylor
    Shelvey
    Leon
    Emnes
    Montero
    Dyer
    Gomis.
Essential that Williams returns, back four lost without him.

Yeah, if Britton is fit I'd be happy with this line up....If we're still in it after an hour bring on Dyer and Barrow's pace, possibly sub Oliviera for either Gomis/Shelvey and push for the win <ok>

Some interesting responses all round....I agree on Jazz, at the very least his month long loan should have been delayed until the last possible day of the transfer window. We could really use him right now, even if it's only on the bench.

    If Monk goes;
    ............................Fabianski..........................
    ...............Fernandez...........Amat..................
    Naughton...........................................Taylor
    ....................Shelvey......Leon.....................
    ....................................................................
    Dyer......................Emnes..............Montero
    ..............................Gomis............................

Our bench would be; Tremmel, Rangel, Tiendalli, Ash (if fit), Fulton, Barrow and Oliviera.

Jazz would have been a better option on the bench than Rangel, Tiendalli or Fulton imo.
    Covers more areas.

Also, if Leon is injured, Jazz could have done a good job next to Carroll....they are both energetic and retain the ball well.....allowing Shelvey to be pushed up and Emnes possibly play left wing (how fit is Montero?).
We have cut down on our options, needlessly.

Well that's cheered me up, hopefully no need for Fulton (wouldn't be fair to chuck him in away from home against the likes of Schneiderlin, Cork, Wanyama and Davis).

Is anyone confident we will get a result on Sunday?
Given the situation Southampton found itself in over the Summer they should be scratching around in the lower half of the table - have to take your hats off to them.
I would love a sneaky win or hard fought draw but I think we are looking at another loss. :emoticon-0107-sweat
    Maybe we can get lucky.

    Not confident at all.
A draw would be a very good result.
We're capable of anything so would never write us off but it is difficult to be confident at the moment.

Either another depressing loss, or the team & manager rally and we pull out a great performance, I'm hopeful of the latter, but a little worried....I just hope we play well.

Routledge is out for 4 weeks, Ash is probably out as he couldn't even move his shoulder last week, and Leon is probably out injured too.... ;)

The most likely result is that Southampton will win regardless of what team we put out. The season needs to get back on track at home to Sunderland when we have Ki back. However, football is often unpredictable so you never know.
