On whether Chelsea have lost their invincibility: "They had a difficult result at the weekend but it doesn't mean they're not a dangerous team and an outstanding team. We know it will be a tough game but we are certainly going in with no fear and our strength is in attack." "There will be great motivation for them to go out there with a Wembley final at stake but I'm sure there will be a wee bit of trepidation."
Still find it farcical how we're in a position where we're so reliant on Sturridge, after spending £100m in the summer.
Man Utd have spent £530m and still can't beat a league 2 side without Rooney Arsenal would be below even Everton (who are approaching relegation zone since they are reliant on £28m flop Lukaku) without Sanchez despite spending £85m Still in 3 cups and the race for top 4 #couldbeworse
was rumoured prior to fa cup game. honestly.................. its a two fold question. 1. do you want to risk your season for the league cup cos mourinho will send out lads to crock the boy. 2. if not now when the F....
We should turn this around and say if they try any **** Fabregas and Costa are getting kneecapped #titlegone
yeah but.... we did spend 20mil of that 100mil on strikers... gash strikers and another 10 mil on a punt who is out on laon... thats 3 replacements for suarez who never play/can't play/should never play the other 80mil went on lallana (joke) lovern (joke) (45mil, more than half right there) Markovic and can... (combined 30 mil) and playing for us. its mroe like 105mil
We finished 2nd last season, secured Champions League football, known for aggressive attacking football, and spent over £100m. We're 8th in the league and embarrassed in the CL. It simply isn't good enough.
Just smacks of no ambition. Spending £50m on Soton players after the season we had. Rodgers needs to wake up and realise that this isn't a small club,
We were outspent by Arsenal, Man City, Man Utd, and Chelsea were only below us because they robbed Everton with the Lukaku fee. So if the money is the key issue then we have no right to be top 4 anyway. What wasn't good enough was the manager/players performance at the start of the season, which is now a lot better. The rest is natural from injuries and players settling.
£50m on Falcao instead? Aside from trying harder for Sanchez, who could we have got? We aren't a small club and we aren't a club who desperately throws £200kpw at players as a starting salary.
Appreciate the positivity but we should not be using money as an excuse. There are a number of examples of teams achieving success without having to outspend their rivals - Atletico Madrid and Dortmund are obvious examples. The fact of the matter is - we wasted money on 3-4 players this summer. Lovren, Lallana, Mario and Lambert. All have no place in the starting line up and are squad players at best. Ironically, the young, 'squad' players we did sign i.e. Moreno, Can, Markovic have all now become starters.
This is the thing - we don't need to sign mega stars. We are £200m behind Man United in terms of revenue so we simply cannot compete in that market. With the likes of Moreno and Can - 2 players for £20m who have come into the first team and delivered, with high potential and can be here for many years. That's shrewd business. We spent £20m on Lovren. Why the hell did we spend that much on a LCB when we already had Sakho? We could have signed Schar and Shaqiri for £20m instead of £45m for a couple of players who are used to mid table in PL. Who could we have got other than Sanchez? Lacazette is the best option. Followed by Kevin Volland or Pierre Aubameyang. There are so many quality options out there on the continent but Rodgers is hell bent on spending small fortunes on 'PL Proven' players who are average at best. It just reeks of little ambition from our manager. At least when the committee had more control, we targeted players like Costa, Mkhitaryan, Willian etc. Fair enough, we got knocked back but we were in for them. Now, our marquee signings were Lovren and Lallana, and that was with CL.
