Reports today suggest we are monitoring Matt Mills' status at Bolton, with his contract due to expire at the end of the season.

“The 6’3” cente back joined Wanderers in a £2million from Leicester City in July 2012 and has since gone on to make 82 appearances for the club, scoring six goals. He was named vice captain at Macron Stadium last summer, but has taken possession of the armband due to Jay Spearing's lack of match action since October.

The 28-year-old, who has previously played for the likes of Southampton, Bournemouth and Reading, has recovered from a difficult start to life at Bolton to become one of the most consistent performers at the club, but he has yet to commit to a new deal.

“The Sun on Sunday” report that Fulham had enquired about the possibility of taking Mills on loan for the remainder of the campaign, but, with Wanderers not interested in such an arrangement, Cottagers boss Kit Symons may be tempted into making a cut-price offer instead of holding out hope of landing his target in a free transfer in July.”

I used to watch him when he was at Bournemouth, several years ago. He was good then, albeit at a lower level than he (and we) is now playing. I've got no up to date info on him, but I imagine we could do worse.

Wondering if Dan Burn will be moving this window, as he does not seem to fit into Kits
plans, he is great with headers, but I have thought that when he has played this season
he seemed very slow and his distribution is not what it was.
A change of clubs could be beneficial to both parties, for us some cash in the kitty, and for
Dan a chance to re ignite his career

Burn's a strange one. I thought he'd excel this season but if anything he's gone backwards. Our defensive problems have been well documented and he doesn't seem to be the answer. I agree with you kunye that he could go, if not this month then in the Summer.

I think it may be too soon to write Burn off. He's dropped out of the first team (rightly), but so did Hutchinson at the start of the season, with Burn the man who took his place then. He's probably next in line if either Hutch or Bodorov gets injured, and I don't think we've seen the last of him.

I too still harbour hope for Burn and think a Hutchinson - Burn partnership could be great in the future. He will get more opportunities to cement his place back in the team.

Apparently we're closing in on a move for 19 year old Dutch midfielder Ismail H'Maidat, who's currently playing for Serie B side Brescia.

According to the web, an attacking central midfielder. He's had a trial at the Arsenal and West Ham are interested. At around £700k could be a bargain.

There again, why would we need another young midfielder at this time??

Funnily enough the local paper has been asking just those questions about Dan -

Dan Burn has been told he must bide his time before pulling on a Fulham shirt again. The central defender was just itching to get on the pitch against Sunderland at the weekend - not least because he hails from just up the road in Blyth. It’s been a spartan time for the 6ft 7ins player since he lost his place to Shaun Hutchinson (rated second in our players poll for his showing against the Black Cats).

Burn was a sacrificial lamb in a young side after the 5-0 home caning by Watford on December 5, despite 17 appearances and two goals up till then.

However, manager Kit Symons has hauled the 22-year-old to one side to reassure him over his future. “Dan’s a fantastic player, and I had a chat with him about that, because the others are doing well, and someone has to miss out unfortunately,” explained Symons. “That’s that at the moment but things change very quickly in football, injuries, loss-of-form, suspension. So like Hutch he needs to keep himself fit and ready. When he gets the opportunity I’m sure he’ll be ready to take it.”

As you’ll all know, in the past I’ve predicted Dan and Jack Grimmer to become our CB pairing. Not at the moment though. Dan seems to have lost an awful lot of confidence - if you watch him at the half time ’sub sessions’; loping about rather than running; having the mickey taken out of him by Kiraly and the other youngsters in “keepy-up” circles.

Ideally another loan period would be best but as the Captain said in his reply and Kit confirmed in this article, he’s needed for cover.

None on the incoming front for us, and after Shad Khan's comments last night it could be a quiet day. However, on a couple we have speculated over:

    * Robert 'Hoofer' Huth is having a medical at Leicester

    * Burnley have made a £3m bid for West Brom's Graham Dorrans

Kit said in his presser this afternoon that there are a couple of long shots but he's not expecting any signings today.

Oh, and Hugo's not going to America.

I said earlier that I was happy with no incomings this window stating that with mid table looking likely I would rather just give playing time to the youngsters! I was expecting some outs a bit of deadwood Zverotic, Chihi and Fazlic etc but am slightly concerned that Ruiz, David and now possibly Eisfeld are all going, David and Ruiz were expected but I thought this would lead to chances for Eisfeld, all three players are the same position which only really leaves Kaca and a young Roberts who can play in this position oh unless we put Ross there which I hope not!

    Late News from Sky

We are looking to loan Chuba Akpom from the Arsenal.

please log in to view this image

”Akpom, who won a penalty in the Gunners’ 5-0 embarrassment of Aston Villa yesterday is out of contract in the summer and has attracted interest from numerous sides in this window, including struggling German giants, Borussia Dortmund. It was rumored that Wigan were set to add Akpom on loan earlier today but their interest in the 19-year-old appears to have died down, and FLW understands that Fulham are prepared to make a loan move for the promising forward.

Akpom is seen as something for the future, he has never scored a professional goal for the Gunners, nor out on loan at Brentford or Coventry City, however he has managed 14 goals at international level during involvement with the England youth sides. The youngster joined Arsenal at the age of 8 and has been prolific whilst progressing through the Arsenal youth sides, scoring 10 goals in as many games in the 2012/13 U21 Elite Group Stage. Akpom will surely be looking for an opportunity for some serious development and Symons could be set to offer him just that.

Akpom may join the Championship club tonight, however it is more likely that he will move during the emergency loan window, which opens up for Football League sides on 10th February.”

I responded to your post in another thread saying almost exactly this, Cookie. Must be great minds, right?

Akpom, hmmm, that's what we need - another young striker lacking in experience. I'd rather see Woodrow or Dembele get game time, to be honest. Or, for that matter, Smith or Taggart (as long as McCormack is up there alongside whoever it is, natch.)

The only plus point for Akpom would be that his contract is up in the summer, so if he did well here we would be able to sign him permanently. Not much enamoured with the idea of having four loan players in our first team squad though.

Feb 10th is when the loan window opens for the Championship, not sure of the rules, the word emergency seems to mean a short term loan, like the one Smith went to Bristol City on.
There's so many rules poor old Harry Redknapp got in a tiswas over sending Zarate back to West Ham having just got him on loan to swap for Jarvis coming in.:emoticon-0102-bigsm

That made me laugh. And being told by Tony Fernandes, "No more cheque book. We have good players. We bought all the players you asked for in the summer." appears to have tipped him over the edge. He's quit the job.

Mind you his reason is pretty limp (pun intended) - “Sadly I need immediate surgery on my knee which is going to stop me from doing my job in the coming weeks"
