When they play him forward centre he gets 1 goal and 1 assist every two games - 8 appearances 4 goals 4 assists. When they play him forward right he only has 2 assists in 5 games and once on as a sub. 14 appearances, he was banned for months
He suited the Prem far more than he'll ever suit La Liga. Defences there, especially against Barca just sit back and defend and Barca's way to break them down is to pass them to death and create a small opening. Suarez doesn't have the patience for that in my opinion, his game suits fast pace play. He'll be a good player at Barca and probably get 20 goals a season there but as many have said he'll always be 2nd fiddle to Messi so will never hit the heights he hit when he was the main man at Liverpool. Much like Bale will always be behind Ronaldo and the fans wont appreciate him as much.
I disagree here. I'm hearing a lot about La Liga teams sitting back, where's this come from? That really isn't the case. If anything, they often hold the high line and you'll rarely if ever see 10 behind the ball like you do in the prem. As for pace, you only have to look at the likes of Messi, Ronaldo and Bale to see that Suarez has no excuses for playing with pace in La Liga. The main reason is he's the new boy at Barca. Even the great Xavi admits that he was often bypassed in attacks during his first couple of seasons, it's just the Barca way until you build your rep. BTW Bale may be second fiddle to Ronaldo, but he still had a storming season last year. I really don't think that matters.
When teams play Barca/Madrid they sit back though. They get 0 possession of the ball, put 11 men behind it and hope for the best of a quick break / set piece. Means they can't try and break on them with pace like we did last year with Suarez/Sturridge/Sterling and exploit the gaps. I'm certain Suarez will be a success but just not as much as one that would cost £75m. For that, he should have the team built around him and any other team he would (except Madrid) but Barca could have easily got someone for £20m who'd have done just as well as Suarez in terms of goals and assists for Messi. Inf act they had one and sold him for £35m for Arsenal! Probably felt they had to buy Suarez just to keep up with Madrid in terms of big name signings when they got Bale and Rodrigues.
Maybe Suarez will be a better success in his second season at Barca. It took Neymar a season to settle at Barca. Suarez is struggling at playing for a mega club so far
Suarez hit the ground running at Liverpool but he did get better once he'd got a full season under his belt.
I can't see a player of Suarez' ability being out in the wilderness for too long. I'm a bit surprised it's taken him a while to settle, but I think it will come.
Suarez has been immense tonight, he could have had 3 or 4 in that first half. City don't look like they even believe they can get anything out of this game. If they go into the 2nd half with the same attitude they are going to end up with a hiding.
I'm glad Messi missed the penalty. Thought he was a cock for not letting Suarez go for the hat trick tonight
If Suarez is allowed to dictate the rotation as he seemed to last night then Barca will be hard to stop. Messi and Neymar will benefit from him moving around the pitch, the holes he leaves are not by accident he knows how to drag defenders about and leave space for others. He also understands when there is space for him to be the main man, he was brilliant last night.
2 against City and he scored again yesterday and created two more.#overrated 3 goals and 2 assists this week, #overrated 10 goals 11 assists and that's after being banned for months #overrated
