Which good teams in the world play this formation?

Man City is the only one I know of. Two in midfield up against three will lose out on possession unless the two are amazing (Yaya Toure)

No too 442, both with a flat line and a diamond it leaves too many gaps against 5 man midfield's. Good players attack space. We'd get eaten alive as our midfield isn't good enough. Games are won and lost in midfield in this league, allowing ourselves to be outnumbered by 90% of the teams in this league would be stupid and probably send us down to a league where we could get away with it. There's a reason most teams don't play it anymore, Because enough teams converted to 5 man midfield's to render the formation obsolete. Football has evolved, it will again and who knows, 442 could creep back into fashion, but in the meantime we shouldn't be shooting ourselves in the foot trying set trends that don't work against everyone else's 5 man midfields.

Fair enough lets play as we do zzzzzzzzz burnley play 4 4 2 and have a go score goals we get the ball keep it do nothing with it and try to get a draw. So lets play defoe up top on his own waste of time signing him if thats the case but its all about opinions

So Burnley are your yardstick? Says it all really. They score goals and concede more which is why they are behind us. They are mainly here for the ride and don't mind relegation. We do. 4-4-2 is dead. It may work against Burnley but against most teams it will be eaten alive as Bri says

It's not the formation that's making us play zzzzzzzzzzzz football though is it? It's the tactics. How is playing 442 suddenly going to make us us suddenly do something with the ball? It won't, it will be more of the same only with less numbers in midfield.

So defoe up top on his own is the answer 3 5 2 might aswel be 5 3 2 the way we play 4 5 1 is a no no for me and im not saying Burnley are the yardstick but at least they have a go maybe im just being impatient and ive got to give 3 5 2 a bit more time but i dont think our centre backs r mobile enough

Eh? 352 is 532, it switches between the two depending on attack and defence. How does that mean Defoe is up top on his own? You've lost me there fella.

There's one thing the 352/532 variation we're playing now and the 433/343 variation we were just playing, instantly have the same thing in common and that's how feeble they both are down the middle and Gus won't play anyone attacking down the middle will he? It's Poyet's choices and tactics which are the problem, not the formation imo.

There were other problems with the 433 formation we had in place, like both pacy wingers being injured so it lacked the width forcing the inside forwards to play more like winger distincing them from the main front man. That could have been resolved with Jones and PVA returning. That formation could still work. But it needs Gus to commit players forward in the middle of the park which he refuses to do.

The underlying problem is that we have a very slow back four, the only quick player in there is PVA who is better going forward. This is why Gus is cautious about playing anything resembling a high line. Hence we need to go 3 2 3 2 in our next three home games, anything else will be very dangerous and could be a disaster.

    Dear Brian,

The idea was to press high and really have a go but I think we were a little too static and a little too safe.
It wasn’t one of the nicest games to watch.

I thought we started better in the second half, there was more about us and we looked more determined but then the sending off interrupted what we were trying to achieve.

Jermain [Defoe] was unlucky not to score; we know what he can do and we need to do a few things better to work with him. It was important for him to get 90 minutes under his belt and he’s done that today.

It was a tight game and Fulham seem to have a system of play where they play better away from home. I expect a different game when we go there for the replay.

We need the players to be ready, we’ve a lot of games coming up and now we have a player who is suspended so someone will have to jump in.

I would like to say that Adam Johnson will be back [for the Burnley game]; we’ll have to wait on Wes [Brown] and see what happens over the next few days.

    Thanks for your support,

    Gus Poyet

Were ****e at playing 3 at the back. I don't care what he does as long as our full backs are not our only outlet.

And as any fan or pundit knows that is where the majority of goals are scored from. Come on Gus, give Burnley a shock and go for it.

I've just figured out the solution. we start with 10 men, play for 60 minutes then bring on one extra and 3 subs.

Nope. I'd go with the 3 at the back, but one the three man midfield needs to be Giacc, Alvarez or Johnson. I think Gus realises this as well and we'll probably see this against Burnley.
