Maybe he did, evidently it was the wrong call. I expect a midfield trio like the away to Chelsea not at home to a championship club. Creating chances and scoring goals as team in a run up to big league clash is way more important than laying the challenge down to individuals as far as I'm concerned so again, different hymn sheets.
Not necessarily different though. We don't know. Bridcutt I guess was there to move in to cover full backs bombing on which is fair enough. Larsson I'd play every week. Rodwell SHOULD be looking to push on and be the link man. Defoe was the link man! My Dad said fletcher was neither use nor ornament! I can't pass comment on the game as I couldn't be there sadly. Those two have not exactly put themselves in the bosses thoughts. Hopefully Cattermole back for Burnley. And Johnson instead of Rodwell. As a fan I'd expect Rodwell to be able to play that link man role better than a championship side. You may be right and he might have set them defensively but only Gus and the players know for certain.
Van Aanholt was getting sucked inside too much in the first half and Rodwell was covering him, making him less effective. We came out second half to play a higher line but the sending off changed that, although to be fair we looked a better team after the sending off and Fulham struggled to contain us when we pressed their midfield and backline.
And there lies the problem fella, I've seen enough of him to know he ain't that link man. He ain't even a box to box, get the feeling we're trying to convert him based on the effectiveness of his late runs. Fact is he was brought through as CB, CM is as far up the pitch as I'd play him, he can still make those late runs if the tactics are set up right, but he ain't no attacking influence. He ain't that link man. Looking at our options for the midfield three it should be in order of preference, Catts or Bridcut, Larrson or Rodwell, Giacc or Alvarez. You need to see the game if you can fella to see how hopeless that Midfield three were at breaking down Fulham. One thing is for certain mate, our two top draw creative midfielders will never be effective as they can be until they get game time to learn the game over here. Fixtures like the FA Cup should be the obvious fixtures to give them extra game time, not only to learn the game, but to hit peak fitness, neither of them got any. Gus got it so so wrong imo.
