Have we won one single game in the last decade playing 532 I know we haven't used it much but I'm sure we've lost or drawn every time we've used it

No I want your tactical insight into why the formation doesn't work and maybe what you'd do instead.

Surely it needs a bit of time to perfect it. We drew with 10 men and sounds like we managed to create chances.

Well I'll offer you my insight admittedly it pales in comparison to professionals so lets just call it a opinion as this is after all a forum but I believe it offers no width as with our level of player the wing backs end up getting pinned back and we get stuck in a back five, I would play 4 2 3 1 with the man behind the striker either helping out up front or in midfield as needed. What would you do?

I'd play our strongest side in the replay, this competition is there for the taking with a sweet draw in the next round, fulham brought on there best players and still could not beat 10 men, gus should anylise this match and rip em a new one at craven cottage, he ****ing better, only 16 places left. Got a canny positive vibe tonight despite not winning today, hopefully catts will be back, really missing him for me like

As ever, could have been better but despite some of the negativity in our play that nearly worked. Thought Billy J and PVA did well as a wing backS but the quality of their delivery in to the box wasn't great. We still lack movement off the ball so it's difficult to play positive possession football and that has to improve or we will continue to be pushed further and further back and put ourselves under pressure.
Their keeper had to make 3 good saves and on another day one of those goes in. Other than them hitting the post in the dying minutes they flattered to deceive and Vito had little to do that I can remember. Rodwell needs a clip round the ear from Gus - stupidity. Whickam - shocking first touch and lazy as the day is long.
I nominate Seb as the new Duracell bunny - that lad gets through the yards.
Still in the bag with some great results today. I expect us to win at Fulham where we will be under less pressure to perform as the away team.
Hope we beat Burnley next week or the GOBs will start to voice their dis-satisfaction.

I've long fancied 4231 too mate but I understand Defoe apparently has to play in a front 2.
It's a difficult one cos our best 3 players seem to be Defoe, AJ and Cattermole.

352 suits Defoe and allows AJ to play centrally but we haven't seen Catts in it yet.

442 suits AJ and Defoe but leaves us exposed in CM and we'll get overrun in there by prem teams.

4231 suits Catts and AJ but not Defoe, presumably? It would allow Giacch to play just behind him though.

Dear Wise Men Say........... You total legend

The idea was to press high and really have a go but I think we were a little too static and a little too safe.
It wasn’t one of the nicest games to watch.

I thought we started better in the second half, there was more about us and we looked more determined but then the sending off interrupted what we were trying to achieve.

Jermain [Defoe] was unlucky not to score; we know what he can do and we need to do a few things better to work with him. It was important for him to get 90 minutes under his belt and he’s done that today.

It was a tight game and Fulham seem to have a system of play where they play better away from home. I expect a different game when we go there for the replay.

We need the players to be ready, we’ve a lot of games coming up and now we have a player who is suspended so someone will have to jump in.

I would like to say that Adam Johnson will be back [for the Burnley game]; we’ll have to wait on Wes [Brown] and see what happens over the next few days.

    Thanks for your support,

    Gus Poyet
