This is what the the papers in Bristol are saying at the moment, if we could get him as well as Nugent we would destroy some of the championship sides this season, thoughts? LEICESTER City are ready to test Bristol City's resolve by making an improved offer for star striker Nicky Maynard. Foxes boss Sven Goran Eriksson has been tracking the former Crewe forward since the end of last season and formally declared his interest when tabling a bid on June 19. City's decision to reject an offer of around £2 million, and Leicester's subsequent pursuit of Peterborough United striker Craig Mackail-Smith, appeared to signal an end of Eriksson's interest in Maynard. But that all changed when League One champions Brighton, eager to bolster their attack in readiness for life in the Championship, beat off competition from Leicester and West Ham to land Mackail-Smith for a club-record fee of £3.25m on Monday. Although Eriksson is close to agreeing terms with out-of-contract Portsmouth striker David Nugent, he remains in the market for an out-and-out goalscorer and is set to renew his interest in Maynard. The former England manager has refused to comment on speculation linking the club with Maynard, but it is understood Eriksson is preparing to table a second bid for the striker before taking his squad on a pre-season tour to Sweden on Sunday. City are refusing to put a price on Maynard's head and manager Keith Millen and chairman Colin Sexstone will be reluctant to risk the wrath of the Ashton Gate fans by selling to a rival Championship club. Leicester will certainly have to come up with more than the £3m they offered Peterborough for Mackail-Smith before City even consider selling their prize asset. But Eriksson is intent upon recruiting a proven Championship goalscorer with genuine pace and with the full financial backing of the Asian Football Investments company, which has a controlling interest in the Foxes, he is now making Maynard his prime target. Signed from Crewe for £2.25m in July 2008, Maynard still has a year remaining on his Ashton Gate contract. Fearing he could see out his contract and leave for nothing as a free agent next summer, City have offered their top scorer a new deal and are pressing him to sign before the start of the new season. But Maynard is unlikely to put pen to paper until the transfer window closes at the end of August, preferring to keep his options open in case a Premier League club comes in for him. So far, rumours linking the striker with Liverpool, Everton, QPR, West Brom and Aston Villa have proved unfounded, while Championship rivals Nottingham Forest and Watford have failed to follow up their alleged interest with firm offers. Leicester are the only club to have made a formal bid for Maynard and they are likely to have to up their offer to at least £4m before City officials are even prepared to talk. Should City decide to cash in and sell now, they will have to pay Crewe 20 per cent of any transfer fee under the terms of the sell-on clause agreed when Maynard left Gresty Road three years ago.
Was the from the Bristol City newspaper site? I really hope we sign him - we is a proven score at this level!
Looks like we have had another bid rejected!!! Jeez!!! http://www.bcfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10327~2387236,00.html
Bet that the bid was near £3.5-4m. I hope that he signs or refuses to sign a new contract soon, this is getting tedious.
Im suprised you lot havent got the hint yet, we WONT sale Maynard to you... it cant be that hard to get surely? If he doesnt sign for us then he'll sign for a prem club. not a Championship 1. Understand? no, thought not
This will only die once hes signed a new contract with you, has he still not found a pen in Bristol? Hes been looking for one for about 2 weeks now.
There was definately a stationary store on Park Street when i lived there. I'll direct him if he likes
We need to stop testing the water offer 4M and an extra 1M when we go up. Get him signed asap. Same applies to Matt Mills. Get them signed asap
How many times do we have to go over this? Do I need to shout? NO PREMIERSHIP CLUBS ARE INTERESTED. IF WE OFFER ENOUGH MONEY YOU WILL TAKE IT. IF NICKY MAYNARD HAS ANY AMBITION HE WILL WANT TO JOIN US. Glad that's cleared up.
Dont think he will sign a new contract with Bristol! will sign for us at the right price, or run his contract down. Bristol could lose a lot of money by not letting a player better himself
Oh the disgusting poster that is atwembleyin1887 has become a twating annoying spelling spotter has he - Still you don't see many chavs do you, maybe we should think ourselves fortunate to have seen some diatribe from one
Agreed. Let him be welcome. Apart from their first game of the season, he would probably have to shout hello to his neighbour at the ghost town that is the ricoh. atwembley - if i have spelt something wrong, please feel free to correct me. Will be the only chance you have to get one over us this season.
No decent players left No money Hardly any fans and bob F*****G hope of finishing outside the bottom 6?
