He'd probably give him the confidence he seems to be missing with us. With a bit more of that I think he'd be a decent squad player
Most likely a ploy to get the McManaman deal to go through. Happens all the time, pretend you're interested in someone else to force the club you really want to buy from to accept your offer. Wouldn't be disappointed if it was legit though.....
I really don't understand all the negativity around Matt. He was great last year, until his injury. Since then he has had little real game time and is pilloried for every mistake he makes. To my mind, I always see him having a go and running at the other side, he often does this when much of the rest of the team seem incapable of allowing the ball outside our own half. Still, why nurture a 23 year old and improve his confidence and gameplay when he can be replaced (no doubt) with a man 10 years older? I'd hate to see him go and would rather we invested time and energy in him.
If I was betting man, I'd put money on him leaving us and becoming a minor talent for another club. For me has all the asset but just isn't producing for us, as stated, it may be he just needs a run in the side or being in a different team.
As I mentioned on another thread, when he was at Blackpool under Ollie he was a dynamic wide-man who really terrorised defenders, he's been a shadow of that player, that's down to Harry, no-one else...
When he signed, David McIntyre was raving about him - he suggested Hoilett would be on the way out as Phillips was a major upgrade (see below) There is no doubt he has talent - as you say, he demonstrated he had it with Blackpool... seems he has just lost his mojo - perhaps a move away would be best for him. My fear is that with the extra cash freed up Harry will just waste it on bringing in another of his old 'mates' Re: McIntyre on Phillips David McIntyre @davidmcintyre76 23 Aug 2013 #QPR about to sign the epitome of the kind of player their money should have been buying since 2007. Matt Phillips a simply superb signing. David McIntyre @davidmcintyre76 31 Aug 2013 @edowney68 @stugetty neither. All a chain. And if Stoke pay up for Hoilett Rangers will be fine. Already made a better signing in Phillips. David McIntyre @davidmcintyre76 2 Sep 2013 @Sawbo66 Phillips should be available for next game and is a much better signing. Right time to sell Hoilett if the money's on the table.
Phillips isn't doing much or serving a visible role with the club. The move might be good for QPR and him.
