Yeah, i think that's the correct shout. On the pitch, as a signing who cost next to nowt and did what he did, giving me the best years of my football supporting life it's Super Kev. However, not just in terms of what he did on the pitch. but how he dug in to keep this club going, when it was literally on the brink of disaster it has to be big Niall.
Taking signing to be playing-related only for sheer impact, you can't look past SuperKev. The problem is comparing players from different ages. Charlie Hurley and Shacks were giants were of their time. Dave Watson went onto bigger and better things after he left us.

...but seriously. Quinn, coz it asks who has been Sunderland AFC's greatest post-World War signing. If it has asked 'greatest post-World War player' it would have been SuperKev.
Its a very simple one for me. Super Kevin Phillips is the best £350,000 we have ever spent and is simply the best footballer I've seen in my time following the lads since the 1974/5 season. Not only a fantastic goalscorer and still only Englishman to win the coveted European Golden Boot but also a magnificent passer, header and controller of the ball and a tireless worker for the team. He had no obvious weaknesses for me and was one of Europe's top strikers in his pomp. He will be heralded in these parts for generations and spoken about to our kids by us all, as we heard spoken about Shack, Hurley and Clough etc to us. A true Sunderland legend and iconic figurehead.
It has to be SNQ for what he brought to the Club and the City, he is a true legend, a word used far too often, but in this case well merited.
Super Kev by an utter landslide. Golden boot winner in this age with Sunderland, I don't think that will ever happen again with a club our size. I used to watch him play and he really could play. He could pass, dribble, drop in midfield and spray the ball about and most importantly he could finish. The first season we came up and he ripped premiership defenders apart is the best season I've ever had as a fan. A true legend and could of easily played for any team in the land.
