To be fair, SB, I have always had an affection for Portsmouth(city) whilst cordially disliking,or ignoring, the football club, (depending on just how low they have been in the league). I must admit, this current jaunt outdoes even the early 80s.
I spent much of my childhood and adolescence in and around Pompey, due to a father in the Royal Marines, Eastney and subsequently in H.M Customs and Excise at the ferry port. I also went to a co-educational grammar school in Purbrook, instead of a single-sex grammar in Fareham and therefore played football against all the local teams, as well as for Havant Schools. I was one of only two Saints fans in my year. Most of the other lads supported both Pompey and a "good team."

Still think Southampton's better though!

I suspect if you went to the same schools now the pupils loyalties probably lie with Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool. Very few in our area seem to support our two local teams. Might be surprised at the following of other Premiership teams in the Southampton area, which is really sad when they are really good.

 

Have you been to the International Ferry Port? It is excellent now and a wonderful place to board the elegant Pont Aven for a trip to St Malo in the winter months. To my mind the Pont Aven is the most attractive ship that sails in and out of Portsmouth Harbour on a regular basis.

For some reason some of you are trying to humour SB3, which is very sporting of you. I think, however, having established that Katharina isn't about to sell the club to a fake Sheik, we can close this thread.
