Would you wait until the summer if it meant De Boer was appointed? Would you risk 16 games of Carver with De Boer as the prize in the summer.

    I would.

    From the Graniud

"Frank de Boer has opened the door to an approach from Newcastle United this summer.

The Ajax manager is understood to be on the St James’ Park shortlist to succeed Alan Pardew but has made it clear that he would not countenance leaving Amsterdam before the end of the season.

While that still stands, De Boer has suggested he could be available come June. Asked if he would consider relocating to Tyneside the 44-year-old former Holland captain appeared to drop Mike Ashley a hint. “I have everything open,” said the Ajax head coach.

“But I will be ready that’s for sure. I only said if they asked I don’t go now because I am with Ajax and I don’t want to go halfway through a season while also stepping into a team that are already halfway too. So, for me, if there will be a chance it is always in the new season.”

Lee Charnley, Newcastle’s managing director and the man charged with leading the hunt for Pardew’s replacement, has recently indicated that the club may wait until the summer until filling their vacancy. It is thought Charnley could shortly announce that John Carver, the caretaker manager, will continue on a temporary basis.

Deferring a more permanent decision for a few months would have the added advantage of allowing Newcastle to select from a wider pool at a time when more candidates would be available. Others who could rival De Boer include Saint-Étienne’s Christophe Galtier, who remains adamant he is not prepared to quite the Ligue 1 team before May, Derby County’s Steve McClaren and Thomas Tuchel. The former Mainz coach is eight months into a year out from football.

De Boer has previously come close to managing in the Premier League. “Two years ago, I was very honoured that Liverpool asked me if I was interested in the job,” he told Sky Sports. “There was still other candidates also. But I just signed a new contract [at Ajax] and I said you are too early at this moment.

“And then Tottenham last year. I was one of the candidates and in the end they chose Pochettino and all respect to the choice. These were two clubs that I was quite interested in.

“I would like to manage in England but also Germany and the Spanish league because they are the three best leagues in the world, so I would like to get that experience.”"

Frank de Boer will swiftly close that door again if we are in the Championship. Seriously, if we are not in the PL next season we will struggle to get anybody half decent.

De Boer has made a mistake by admitting interest in the job.

It will simply mean that Ashley will offer him less money knowing that the Dutchman is keen.

Didn't think he'd manage in the championship...

Do you not think that when players begin to come back off injury we'll have enough to stay up? Even with the current muppet in charge? Aarons and De Jong are who I'm thinking about the most, and Santon should give us more tenacity at the back when he's fit and fighting for a place. I'm going to predict something like 12th-15th for our final position, and if the current manager of Ajax is happy to come in the summer after that, I'll take it.

Second half of last season when we still had a manager we won like three games. John Carver has yet to win his first match as Newcastle manager but he can rest easy knowing that if he can scrape atleast 4 wins we may survive relegation and he would of beaten Pardew's record.

Edit: Then again we already have played two of the three relegation favourites and failed to beat either, if we lose against Hull I can't see us beating anyone for the remainder of the season.

We should have enough but how long will they be fit for is the question. We are really missing Aarons and Obertan. They give us the penetration and stretch the game to create room for Sissoko. We have Abeid and Santon back which should improve our ball retention significantly. If we invested in a centre back on loan I think everyone would be a lot more comfortable.

I agree with this. If we can pick up one of Arsenal's CB's, assuming they buy Paulista on top of the young 'un they've taken, we could be ok.

I'd really like to see Remy back on loan. Purely because he will get goals in the short term and with Remy on top of our returning players, top 10 is a shoe in.

Think the main thing this year is to stay up, we should have enough points, even with Carver in charge. Can see a bigger club than Newcastle coming in for De Boer which maybe a problem. What's the situation with Luis Enrique at Barcelona?

What thought process goes on in somebodies mind where they are offered ****loads of money at Liverpool, the chance to apply for Spurs, and end up settling for the Aldi of the premier league?!

I can only think he feels he doesn't want to miss the boat on managing abroad, and just has itchy feet at the moment, as do most manager's who manage in the Dutch league for a few seasons.

I'd be massively surprised if we could tempt him. Unless Mike is going to start investing, I'd say it's a complete non-starter.

I'd say managing in the Dutch league is probably like managing Newcastle United, in as much as low investment for player purchases, emphasis on developing youth whilst picking up players with development potential from other clubs, seeing your key players tempted away with bigger deals in other leagues/higher placed clubs - so for many you're only a stepping stone all alongside a passionate fan base with big expectations!

It is becoming more obvious every week the manager you should be going after is the one at Crystal Palace
