So the worst manager we ever had got us our highest ever finish in the premier league, a cup win, into Europe. Wow.
I still don't buy the relegation form crap either, I have spoken about it enough with stats to back it up, but the travelling around Europe with a small squad was killing us. Bigger clubs had struggled, yet people like Dai above couldn't consider that as being part of the problem for us.

Why do you go back a season and a half for when curtis picke the team and got go on half of the first seaon and the whole of his last seasons efforts ..They dont count i suppose only the few months at the beginning

It did not matter we were sinking like a stone and was just 2 points off the relegation places ...that was ok because we beat a league two club at wembley so that made him great... do me a favour and get real. wigan won the FA cup and got relegated and look at them now!!!!! ask their fans if they would prefer a cup to playing in the top flight where the money is...I know the answer it seems some of you dont...Laudrup was useless and thats what counts as he nearly got us relegated and thanks to jinx and monk they saved our skins...
I seem to recall that after the first three matches of this season,all of which were won,there was much hysterical talk of Monk,who was even rookier then than he is now,heading to Real Madrid,Barcelona or Bayern Munich. Really,I haven't made that up.
These Clubs' had apparently homed in on his immediate success,and were preparing huge carrots to tempt the new genius on the block to the Spanish sunshine. Following in the steps of Michael Laudrup,so to speak.
Barcelona were so confident that Monk would be in place for next season,that a statue was commissioned for eventual display outside The Bernabeu - fact. This I made up, poetic licence.
Fast forward and we now have one of the soothsayers announcing that Monk would be at Swansea for "a long time".
Now,I'm getting confused. Which is it?

TBF to Monk he was new when Hamster was here, buddies with Roberto, injured a lot of the time Brendon was in charge but he did manage to help make Sousa jump before he got him pushed and used the same tactics against Laudrup which our board fell for hook line and sinker.

Not upsetting - just boring to keep copy and pasting the same sentence. We have seen it, we get that you both hate him for saying it, but to be honest he might well be right, none of us were there on the training ground with the players during that season so we can never know.
I agree it stinks for him to say it in a book like that, but I'd rather just move on and you two just seem intent on picking at scabs... :s

The scariest thing of all you said there, was that you actually believe it haha.

The second half of the season was dreadful, but to think the fact the cup was won, the season was safe had no part to play with is naive in the extreme.
If you want to go on about poor runs, talk about the season in its entirity, such as the season he found himself sacked. You know, 24 points from 24 games, which is not relegation form. Which considering we had the easiest run of fixtures on paper, and the bulk of games had already calmed down. I mean from our first game on the 1st August to his final game on the 1st February, we played 37 games.
37 games in 164 days - 1 game every 4.4 days + travelling
Monk played 17 games, in 92 days - 1 game every 5.4 days + very little travelling
Did you know in the first half of the season, which for us ended on the 28th Dec, we played every one of the other 19 teams once, we had 21 points from those 19 games. Which was far from relegation form, and also 5 points ahead of the relegation zone. Not bad considering our Europa exploits too.
That time frame was 130 days and 30 games, an average of 1 game every 4.3 days. Which when you look at all the travelling required too, was bloody impressive.
From there til the day he was sacked, he played Man City, Man Utd, Spurs, Fulham and West Ham. He picked up 3 points in that group of games which was about 50% of what we could really have hoped for considering the home/away fixtures. We are after-all Swansea, not Chelsea, and home and away make a big difference to us. In that same time frame he knocked Man Utd and Birmingham out of the FA Cup.
Monk then took over, and took us on our worst run for god knows how long, 1 win in his first 10 games in charge, in those 10 games there were 7 League games, which he picked up 6 points, 3 of those were from his first game against Cardiff, so he picked up 3 points from his next 6 league games, whilst also seeing as get knocked out of the FA cup and Europa League.
So he took us on a 9 game streak without a win. Something Laudrup never succumbed too. Laudrup only managed 7 games without a win.
As for players going to the Chairman, we all know who they were.

Unfortunately you have only gone and proved how narrow minded your view is, as after-all, I have proved with hard facts that Monks run was far worse than Laudrups, yet you still backed him to the hilt. We also had player problems with Monk in charge, yet you backed him to the hilt.
Fact is you didn't like ML, it had very little to do with what was going on, as in the grand scheme, our form wasn't all that bad, unless you were ignorant enough to avoid the facts.
We would never have been relegated, as pointed out he had 24 points from 24 games, not relegation form. You can only use the 38 game period as its all you have, you cannot justify the sacking on form the season as a whole. You have to mix and match to suit it, but thankfully many can see that the season before had no bearing on his last season.
34 turned out to be the safe number for points at the end of the season, and if you honestly think we would not have picked up 10 points from the final 14 games, your living in cloud cuckoo land, as all other facts prove you wrong.
I mean in the entire season, his worst run was 8 games without a league win, and even looking at his worst possible 14 games, he picked up 11 points, and that was including a period where we played 8 teams that finished above us in the final league table. So its hard to imagine not picking up 10 poins even if your a Laudrup hater.
The real problem was, we had too many fans that were too easily spooked and panicked. There were however a large amount of fans that also understood that the travelling, numbers of games, injuries all played their part in fans like you having a panic attack when things got a bit slippery.

First I think the word "hate" is not appropriate. I don't hate Monk, rather I have zero respect and better stated as disdain for the individual. Those are two entirely different things.
And you don't need to be at the training ground to do some basic macro-level football accounting and analysis.
Folklore says that Monk was anti-Sousa to some degree or other and was anti-Laudrup to some degree or other. Monk's own words turn folklore into fact.
Depending on how much he actualized this thinking yields at the very least a situation best classed as counter productive to one that is disruptive and destructive. This is a person supposedly capable of acting in the best interest of the club, supposedly a leader and competent enough to be a Prem manager and coach, but apparently as captain of the club could not intellectually or emotionally or both able to get his mind around Sousa's methods, but instead dismisses Sousa's professional accomplishments, qualifications and approach and attributes everything achieved and adversity overcome that season to the "attitude" of the players. Somehow, all on their own the same players (minus Scotland, Gomez and Bodde) transformed a defense that conceded 50 goals under Martinez to one that conceded 37 under Sousa - and Sousa was saddled with no #9's of any value and had to deal with a goal output of 40 versus 63 under Martinez. So, due to the Boards inability to fund or find replacements for Scotland, Gomez and Bodde - scorers of 40 goals for Martinez - Sousa through coaching and clever match management managed to generate 40 goals for, and produced 69 points and +3 goal difference versus the 68 points and a +13 goal difference of Martinez.
Sousa produced superior output from inferior resources. And yet, according to the font of football knowledge embodied by Monk, Sousa's contribution was nothing; it was all down to the same players less three key individuals and top goal scorers. Really?
This is germane to our current situation. This paints a very clear picture of the person that we charged with the responsibility of developing our players, preserving our Philosophy, planning our strategy and tactics and managing our matches.
When you define the rules of the game, you'd better be able to play by them. These are Monk's rules. We are entitled to referee the game he is playing under these rules.

Valley, I think that with the departure of Bony, it's going to be a lot more interesting from here. The plot has thickened quite a bit. Walking the talk is going to be the name of the game and there's no place to hide. You couldn't make this **** up, it's better than any fiction ever written. If Monk fails we all suffer in the tragedy. If Monk survives (the club in the league that is), the spot light then snaps to the Board - how do they view it, what do they do. If he succeeds (whatever that really means at this point) we need to celebrate the "attitude" of the players .... I guess. At this point Monk has cover to some degree .... he can always blame the outcome on the Board moving Bony out ... let's face it that's a loss to challenge any manager. But, if he's as acerbic to the Board as he is in his book .... I wonder how much good will he has on deposit.
Fully agree YJ. I was shocked and appalled to read the comments posted by Terror about Sousa by Monk. Whether he was speaking the truth or not, you should keep those sort of comments private.
