Can anyone help me out here? Allegedly the January transfer window inflates prices of players so why is it that Bony only goes for £25 mill. If it is the case that that price is inflated due to the transfer window we must assume that his worth is a lot less!! Then we have Taylor who we are saying is worth £5 mill yet are prepared to pay the same price for Naughton and Olsson. The first hardly kicking a ball for Spurs and the latter a championship defender who has the illustrious record of 2 relegations to his name. Am I missing something? An international left back with consistent match time at the highest level in the Premiership is valued as the same as those previously mentioned. It just seems to me that we are either really crap at valuing our players or really crap at negotiating other teams down on the value of theirs. Is is just me or do we always seem to pay premium prices from other English based teams yet sell cheaply. Am I missing something??
We are craps at both. And no,you are not missing anything. What I will say is that we have a rookie manager with money burning a hole in his pocket.
Taylor isn't that good - international left back for Wales is pretty meaningless as Ash has to cover his backside there too. Stupid money being asked for British players - who in their right minds would value Jonjo Shelvey at £6mn? We are naive in the UK transfer market (and French it seems). While pleased to have Gylfi the transfers with Spurs in the summer was a debacle. The contract with Gomis is almost unbelievable and his reason for wanting out should have been addressed before the last couple of weeks in December. Others on here will be able to tell us but I wonder how many Championship strikers have successfully made the step up to the Prem with a new team?
Man City paid £32m for that Mangala dude....... We are a soft touch in the transfer market and every club out there knows it.
Not according to Dai,who dismissed him out of hand,on numerous occasions. Not that his opinion counts for anything, just saying.
Bony bought for £12million sold for £28 million, Allen free sold for £15 million, Graham bought for £3.5 million sold for £5 million, Rodgers free sold to Liverpool for 5 million, these are just a few of our dealings in the transfer market not bad in my opinion.
Bony was sold for £25m, forget the £3m, we will never see that. To a team that spends loads of cash in a window that demands premium values, we got screwed. Allen was not to do with our shrewd transfer dealings, but that it was his buy out clause. No negotiating needed.
Hj gets an awful lot right for our club and has and will continue to be a great chairman. Please though can you get someone else to do any transfer negotiations as I feel you get done nearly every time.
My point or more so my frustration isn't that we don't make a profit when we sell but we don't seem to maximise our position with valuations both when we sell as well and when we buy.
What i will say is that it's obvious that some on here dont understand football one iota. the way we deal with our finances has just seen us move up from 50th to 29th in the rich list that proves that the club is doing things right. . How anyone can say that the club dont know what its doing is bonkers and their guesswork is so far from reality it makes them look a fool...
Which has nothing to do with the question I asked. Cardiff has also moved up in that list and now make the top 40, in fact all 20 English top flight clubs for 2013/2014 season feature in the top 40 this year. This has more to do with the cash in the Premier league than anything els especially not transfer dealings. That aside still has nothing to do with valuations in the transfer market which was the point of the OP
Nobody has said the club don't know what they are doing in the wider context of running the club. I also don't know where the guess work you are talking about comes in. As for calling people fools try understanding the question asked and maybe you will look less like a fool yourself!!
Swansalona - surely someone from the Club negotiated the insertion of the £15m buy-out clause? That said, I agree with the rest of what you say!
Thats my point Bob if he is better, and their prices are inflated, shouldn't his valuation be inflated too? You are so right with valuations on HG players Bob silly money to say the least!!
Dai that list I believe takes no account for transfers, just commercial, matchday sales and broadcasting. So yes they are doing some things right. I still believe like a lot of others, they could improve in their transfer dealings.
We are an established premiership club so you cant expect anyone of worth to start in the squad for less than £5m. you only have to look at half of our players who need to be replaced with better like Jazz, leon, rangel and a few others. £2-£3m players wont cut it today and that is testament how far we have come and the longer we are in the premiership the more we have to pay for players just to stay here...Thats just how it is if you are a small successful club...
