    so far so good.
We may still get Goodwillie and Gunnarson.
We might get Bellers back, and will have spent about 2.5 Million inlcuding compo to coventry.
What do we need to have in place by beginning of the season, bearing in mind that come September we will hopefully have Premiership players to take on loan.
However any player and Manager is going to look at the squad he (or in the case of the manager his player) is going to.
they will assess the quality already at the club and see if it will be a good team that won't damage the prem players rep, and is it a well run team that for the manager will improve his player.
So is it that good yet, and what position do we need to strengthen to make it better, more attractive?

Goodwillie and Gunnarson are needed as these seem to be the spots we still need to field. I would like a heavy assassin type to patrol the midfield as well to assist the creative players we have at or disposal with a bit of bullocking work. Probably will need one more striker tool i reckon. Not confident in Bellers making it this season :(

But the squad is taking shape nicely.

With the 4 new signings plus maybe 2 out of the 3 you mention, I'd like to have a mid-field hardman who could boss the show and a tall centre forward.

When see how things are when the Prem loans come into play.

Everything Siam said plus another winger? Either flank is fine as Conway is interchangeable.

If we were to get Gunnarson and Goodwille I would say we still need...

    1. Midfield destroyer. Defensive minded with good, simple distribution and choice making. Perhaps we need to look abroad for this player as clever players of this sort in the UK are hard to come by and pricey.
    2. Winger. As above. Either flank. Perhaps this could be a top class loanee? (If we're lucky Bellamy) Depends whats out there.
    3. Striker. 6 foot plus. Good all-rounder with pace and a good goal ratio. A Cameron Jerome type?

Just not Cameron Jerome, he's still a bit miffed to why he isnt celebrated as one of our greatest players ever.

IMO we need 2 more strikers and at least 2 more midfielders, goodwillie could be one, gunnarsson could be another so maybe another 3-4 players after that, possibly a loan player or 6 :D

I think we need to manage our expectations a little bit. Dont get me wrong I would love to sign another 4 quality players, but I dont expect it to happen.
At the end of the season we lost Oli, Chops, Bothroyd, Burke, Bellers. You can add Koumas, JET, Ramsey but they were only here for a short period, or in the case of Koumas, didnt feature that much.
We've signed 4 players and are strongly linked with Goodwillie and Gunnarsson. We get those and I think we have the core of the squad, Just one or 2 loanee's throughout the season and we'll be alright.
As shown last season, just because we had a large squad full of quality, does'nt always work out better than a smaller group with 1 or 2 loans to augment certain positions.
I think we should also be looking to off load a few players to free up wages, Naylor for one springs to mind.

Agree with that throw in Gyepes too, I like Darcy but it's hard to find a place for him and Quinn but maybe he can play in mid-field.

I think Darcy may be the midfield enforcer and although I agree I would like to sign a player for that position, I would'nt really mind if Darcy got his chance to make the position his own, he's earned his shot.
Could'nt agree more with Rhondda about Gyepes, dont rate him and we've got plenty of options at CB, also dont like how he came out and slammed Jones when the season ended. It was obvious that Jones was finished after the playoffs, there was no need to stick the boot into him.

Or in the Swans case a goalkeeper, 2 defenders, 2 mid-field player & a striker.

Thats the bench sorted, only the team left now.

Sorry but not true, Wales has its own Premier League with 12 clubs, guess that makes Swansea unlucky 13

I concur with this. Mercenary player. Let him bitch elsewhere.

On a side note. Bluebird1927 has a nice quote at the bottom of his profile and i SWEAR Siam has a weed plant behind him in his profile picture. This season's gonna be a trip!

We need to tell Pompey where to get off and keep Whittingham, If we can get Goodwillie and Gunnarsson, and convert D'arcy into a combative midfielder (not impossible IMO), well we will still be a "work in progress" but not in bad shape,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,obviously a couple more players would be welcome..............But I can see MM taking time to look at what he's got at the club, and maybe strengthening what he perceives as weaknesses in January. Top ten around Christmas...............a bit more strengthening in January to perhaps mount a bit of an unsuccessful playoff challenge,

then kick on next year into the promised land, you heard it here first <ok>
