Assessment of Monk

Garry is doing exceptionally well as our manager regardless of his rookie status. So far he has shown himself to be a very capable, talented young manager indeed. Maybe we should make a list of other rookie 36yo managers so we can compare them, any takers? maybe laudrups little luvvies can have a go at it.

Garry must be respected for his achievements not his personality.

He has been extremely successful at freshening up what was becoming a toxic changing. To do this he cleared the ego's who threatened us and replaced this junk with players we love Siggy, Jefferson, Fernandez, Fabianski. In fact, Gomis apart, all of his transfers have been spot on so far, well done Garry

His mane success though has to be maintaining our growth through a very trying period. He kept us up last season when we could easily have gone down and this year he is in the process of giving us some bite. Although I feel we still need some one in midfield who can TACKLE. Shelvey could be this man but he needs to sort out his demons first.

Monk has also helped players re-invent themselves, Ki being a prime. Shunned and neglected by the previous incumbent now, under Monks guidance, Ki has risen to be one of our best players.

Monk has skilfully guided us the top half of the table which, given our current squad, is right where we should be, we have lost nothing under Garrys tenure, but we've bought some great talent and made a heap of cash, well done Garry.

So the assessment has to be that Garry Monk has been superb for us so far.

I would ask laudrups little luvvies again to offer a list of alternative managers they think would be an improvement on our very own Garry, or a list of ways in which his tenure has had a detrimental effect on our club.

GREAT WORK GARRY, KEEP IT UP

Well now that he doesn't have somebody who can score goals, let's see how he coaches his way out of this.

"Yes, we finished seventh, which was one place higher than the previous season, but I put that achievement down to the attitude of the players rather than anything Paulo Sousa gave us", so sayeth the Monkster. :emoticon-0136-giggl

Taking this to heart .... perhaps the achievement you rave about was all down to Bony's output ... so time to walk the talk as they say. A real coach should be able to handle this .... Sousa did .... but he was apparently crap!

Actually they were coaching the likes of Joe Allen, Jazz Richards and Ben Davies and left for other opportunities in the professional game....bitter much? :)

Not me, just saying like, I know how the footy scene works in Swansea, Portalbot, and Carmarthen region, not to mention Cardiff area as well..<cheers>

PS: So your a budding coach aye?............<laugh>

the problem we have is the players who were playing under Brendan have either left or are past their sell by date and the new players cant grasp the fine passing style we use to have. Monk is doing his best in trying to install the Swansea way but it is not there to the degree it use to be. It will take much longer than a season to replace players with the right kind and be able to gel them properly. Fair play to monk he has got the team doing the basics but they are not finely tuned and wont be with the mixture of old and new players we have. As long as we can hold our own for a couple of seasons and stay out of the relegation places then i can see monk who will have more experience and the old players replaced with his own being a force to be reckoned with for years to come....

And so will Monk in my view, you don't think Huw will pull the plug on his pet Manager do you?...............<laugh>

On a serious note Sousa was a very clever manger, one we should have kept.......<ok>

Time will tell DPJ - whether Monk will deal with it or not. IMO he has a tough road ahead. As for HJ ..... when the pet stops retrieving the stick, what then.

I seem to recall that after the first three matches of this season, all of which were won, there was much hysterical talk of Monk, who was even rookier then than he is now, heading to Real Madrid,Barcelona or Bayern Munich. Really,I haven't made that up.

These Clubs' had apparently homed in on his immediate success, and were preparing huge carrots to tempt the new genius on the block to the Spanish sunshine. Following in the steps of Michael Laudrup,so to speak.

Barcelona were so confident that Monk would be in place for next season, that a statue was commissioned for eventual display outside The Bernabeu - fact. This I made up, poetic licence.

Fast forward and we now have one of the soothsayers announcing that Monk would be at Swansea for "a long time".

Now,I'm getting confused. Which is it?

<laugh>

If you're going to make something up you could at least get your team/stadium consistent. :)

Which team are you following in the Africa Cup of Nations, if any?

I was hoping someone would spot it. :emoticon-0100-smile

Not following any team in ANC. Not watching it either. If I was still out there,I would be wrapped up in it,watching through the cell bars. <laugh>

My only experience of West Africa was a trip to Guinea to do some work in Conakry and Fria. There's a large bauxite mine near Fria - the size of the ore trucks was amazing. The tyres were as high as a 2-storey house.
