He scored 25 in 75 without getting his regular place back after injury (pretty much like Craig Gordon never did, or David Meyler either). It's still 1 in 3, something we would be glad of right now.

I think there's a middle ground that's somewhere near the truth here. When Bent got injured, Benteke came in and, the way he was playing that season, Lambert simply couldn't drop him - for Bent or for anyone else. But I must say it wasn't pleasant to see a man of Bent's ability festering on the bench. I did have sympathy for him, though I can't say I blame Lambert..

I don't know what happened at Fulham. I do know in his first four games, he played one full game and 3 second-half subs appearances - and scored after 18 mins, 4 mins, and 24 mins. on the field. Whatever did go wrong there, it wasn't the lad's ability.

I still hope it comes right for him. I hate to see a great striker going to waste at just 30 years old.

No sympathy with Bent, whatsoever. Guys a big, blubbering baby.

It's good to see greed bite footballers on the arse.

"He is out of contract in the summer and will walk away for nothing after seeing his Premier League career collapse around his ears."

Typical modern player and the reason I no longer have 'heroes' ......... the supporters are the heroes having to put up with their tantrums.

In his four years at Villa he scored just 25 goals in 72 appearances.
    --------------------------------------------
Pretty good scoring record that in this day and age!! Nothing really to slag him off for when you look at that! Imagine if he's played all130 odd games - 40 odd goals all in all - then it wouldn't be so much of a bad thing would it?

Great point smug - but sadly my 10 year old and 4 year old both do have heroes! Kids don't quite see the world as we do! My son loves AJ and my daughter loves Pantillimon (since she saw the photo of him stood next to Bridcutt!!) Another reason football should never have got into the State Sky have got it into.

You lot obviously have bad feelings towards the guy, but this stinks from Lambert, the guy is trying to deflect his own failings away from himself. He is a flash-in-the-pan mug, who believed his own hype so much that he thinks it's his players. He has a beast of a striker at his disposal who's been misfiring for two years almost and that says more about Lambert than Benteke.

The guy is lucky to be in employment, he's the most boring tosser going, my Sky box goes into sleep mode every time he comes on SSN for **** sake.

I doubt you'll get any arguments but Lambert is nothing to most of us.

Yeah, why would he be anything more? I'm sure he thinks in his head that you'd chase Gus back to Uruguay if Lambert wanted to manage Sunderland.

Complaining that a player was a flop, why can't he spend his time trying to get the best out of Benteke instead?

I hate Darren Bent terry - but Lambert is a complete arsehole. And the only thing that normally comes out of an arsehole is ****e!!

25 in 72 and Lambert complains that he cost £1m per goal!! FFS Imagine if he'd played every game - probably nearly double the amount he has - 50 in 144 - half a million a goal!!

I wonder if he stands all of his players in a line on the training ground telling them all how much they've cost the club per goal.

The difference between Bent and Jozy is that the latter was a trier who put in a shift every time. Bent was knocking them in for fun with us, but then got ideas above his station and poked us in the eye with his "football reasons" for moving (there were only three - pounds, shillings and pence). Jozy deserves a chance somewhere else. Bent deserves sitting in a puddle of piss and being whipped with soggy tenners.
