If we go down then Charlie goes and that balances out the two we bring in and gets us ready for next season. If we stay up....and I genuinely believe we can.........then we have replacements for Bobby who will retire and Vargas who will probably jump ship. We need a mid-term plan here. All these short term fixesget us nowhere. Somebody has posted here that we are paying Zarate 60K a week. I sincerely hope that is a joke.
It's Redknapp saying we are only interested in loans. And even if we weren't, if any quality players were available they would only join with a relegation get out clause.
I don't think the Mirror has any more idea of what the club's transfer budget might be than I do. They're just taking a guess in order to fill column inches. Also, I wouldn't take what Harry says to the press about loan deals as being absolute gospel. The fact is that we're a club who has been seen in recent years to be big spenders and movers in the transfer window, and that has demonstrably been to our disadvantage in terms of the wage demands agents have made of us. Harry has obviously been told to talk down our transfer ambitions this time around, which is no bad thing in my book. But I don't believe that means that if the right player became available for the right transfer fee, we would completely rule out doing a deal. That just wouldn't make any sense IMHO.
An intriguing post Royal Oak First and foremost I agree with your logic. We need a like for like for Zamora, but I don't think the 'Pog' as he's affectionately known is the answer. He's just as immobile as Zamora, and doesn't score too many goals with his head for a big bloke. I think Rudy Gestede is the best option, 26 years old and attracting some interest. Also scored a fair few goals this season. Completely agree regarding Nakhi Wells. He could have the same sort of impact as Dwight Gayle at Palace, another who has shown lower league forwards can make the step up.
Charlie needs a kick up the arse as well. Hes definitely gone off the boil and the two best crosses on Saturday and he was nowhere.................. thats not England class..................
No doubt you're taking the p*ss, but I don't think you're too far wrong there. He has an MO of telling the press only what is in his interests, which generally is fair enough I think. It's certainly not in his, or the club's interest to talk up any spending plans.
Actually, I think he has a genuine problem with this - a lot of his anecdotes, according to the people he says were involved, never happened or happened in very different ways and at very different times to the Redknapp version. And most of them are self deprecating, not intended to make him look clever or good. Of course, he could just have a dodgy memory. He has one about failing to sign Ian Wright for Bournemouth from Enfield or Barnet or somewhere. Trouble was, Wright was already at Palace at the time.......... Redknapp is nowhere near as clever as he thinks. We can all see through his exuses and blame shifting, and even his mates in the press are beginning to call him out. But he has a pathetic urge to please, a simple 'no comment' is never enough. Wouldn't that be preferable to lying? It's bad for the soul. So happens that in this case I don't think he is, I'm convinced its loans only.
It's such a shame that we have no saleable assets other than Charlie, so there's no chance of funding any new players through sales. If Zarate has used up most of the loan budget we're not going to get anyone who'll set the pulses racing. This seems like more 'smoke & mirrors'...
Redknapp is not in charge when it comes to transfers, whether they are loans or not. The board have come to the same conclusion as you and tell him what they want the press to hear! In other words, we have no idea whether we will buy, sell or loan. And that's probably for the best.
Nobody from the Championship please - too expensive (moreso in January window). A speedy striker from League 1 or below as a gamble should be about the maximum gamble we should take.
Why not get 21 yr old Jack Robinson back in the squad from his loan at Huddersfield? Given an opportunity, at least he would likely put in a shift? please log in to view this image
