I've engaged in this debate several times and ended it with a simple explanation, Lee was a Martial Artist, he basically invented Mixed Martial Arts as we know it. Tyson was a boxer, nothing more. Boxing is not a Martial Art, that's why they don't teach boxing as a form of self defence to any military force in the world.

Bruce wid do Tyson who was nothing more than a hammer thrower. He wouldn't lay a glove on Lee.

I've tried explaining that, he literally would not be able to catch him.

If Bruce Lee fell out of a tree, I reckon Tyson would have the capabilities to literally catch him.

If Lee was up a tree it would only be because he leapt up there, ready to pounce on Tyson from the foliage.

Possibly, but he might get a touch of vertigo and fall out and Tyson would be there to "literally" catch him.

Aye but I meant if he was "Chasing" Lee, not attempting to break his fall after some High Jinks.

How did he invent MMA, he never even competed as an MMA fighter. That's like saying Wayne Rooney invented rally driving <laugh>

If you honestly think Bruce Lee who was a 150 pound weedy little martial arts trainer, who's also got no experience in real fights, could beat a 240 pound boxing champion then you have gone completely bonkers.

There is a reason why they have weight divisions in boxing and MMA, as even a slight weight advantage for either man is an advantage. The heavier you are, the more muscle and power you have.

Even a bang average amateur heavyweight that's 240 pounds would kick the arse of any 150 pound fighter, even if the smaller guy was very skillful. The bigger fighter would still win easily.

Then you should be aware that when I say Mixed Martial Arts that i'm not talking about televised competitions, I'm talking about a mix of styles, even so, this is what Dana White had to say of Lee.

"In the late 1960s to early 1970s, the concept of combining the elements of multiple martial arts was popularized in the west by Bruce Lee via his system philosophy of Jeet Kune Do. Lee believed that "the best fighter is not a Boxer, Karate or Judo man. The best fighter is someone who can adapt to any style, to be formless, to adopt an individual's own style and not following the system of styles."

    In 2004,
UFC President Dana White would call Lee the "father of mixed martial arts" stating: "If you look at the way Bruce Lee trained, the way he fought, and many of the things he wrote, he said the perfect style was no style. You take a little something from everything. You take the good things from every different discipline, use what works, and you throw the rest away"

I'm not disputing Lee's influence as a martial artist. He was a great martial artist, but he never proved he could fight.so what Dana White said is wrong as there is no proof whatsoever that Bruce Lee was a good fighter. Being quick when hitting thin air proves nothing. Here is a great article on the truth about Bruce Lee
