http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/30871704 Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says failing to sign Liverpool's Steven Gerrard remains one of his greatest transfer disappointments. Mourinho was close to signing the midfielder in his first spell as Chelsea manager in 2005 before Gerrard chose to stay at Anfield. "We did everything to try [to sign him] and it was almost there," said Mourinho. "I was dreaming of Claude Makelele, Gerrard and Frank Lampard in midfield." Mourinho added: "We were playing in a proper triangle without a number 10 and playing Maka in front of the defenders. Me, Mr Abramovich and [former Chelsea chief executive] Peter Kenyon at that time, we dreamed of that. "His people were open to him joining a top side like Chelsea. But to me personally he never said he would come. Never. "He [Gerrard] was always a red and I think the decision was right." Gerrard will come up against Mourinho at Anfield on Tuesday in the first leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final in one of the last meetings before the former England captain ends his 17-year career in the Liverpool first team this summer when he joins Los Angeles Galaxy. But Mourinho, who describes Gerrard as an opponent he has always admired and respected, says he does not like Chelsea fans to poke fun at the player following his slip at Anfield last year in a match which saw Liverpool's title chances disappear. "The song that my fans have I don't like at all," Mourinho said. "A couple of times it is good fun but to go and go and go, especially with a player like him who deserves respect, I don't think you don't need that. "We have so many other songs, you don't need that one. "I love this quote when he was saying in his life he would never score a goal against Liverpool. I love these words. "I understand why he was - almost, almost, almost - coming to Chelsea. But he didn't and I respect that a lot."
He's a sly ****er our manager. He brought this up for 2 reasons: 1) To remind the fans how Gerrard snubbed us so they give him **** 2) To get inside Gerrards head and **** with him. Thats what I love about Jose, everything he says has some sort of ulterior motive, almost nothing is meant to be taken at face value!
He's also reminding Gerrard of that slip! Even if it's to say he doesn't like our song about it...meaning he probably actually does! Rarely have I seen Jose so determined and ultimately pleased to win a game as he was at Anfield last year. He certainly hasn't forgotten those titanic battles we had with them mid noughties.
Aye, thats what I mean about ****ing with Gerrards head. On the face of it, he it looks like he is saying "Gerrard is a great player, and I have the utmost respect for him", and he probably does, but he isnt just shouting about it to let Gerrard know he likes him.......he is trying to subconsciously **** with him......
But when he is being serious.....he isnt constantly saying things for a reason you know. God you lot love Jose to much, he's no Rafa thats for sure ""I love this quote when he was saying in his life he would never score a goal against Liverpool. I love these words." I think its a pop at Lampard personally with City coming up
Clearly trying to rile Gerrard, but he'll know it and be up for the match. Probably the only realistic chance of a trophy in his last season, so I am sure he will be firing on all cylinders regardless of Maureen's childish games.
I think he pretty much saying things always for a reason. Not quite sure what you mean by the Rafa comparison, he is definitely no Rafa agreed! Thank christ.
Thank **** Jose is no Rafa, We all knew he was an ordinary manager and after sampling his ineptitude at close quarters I'm glad we as supporters were very instrumental in getting rid of the Spanish numpty but also letting him know that. There is only one Jose and he is Chelsea's the rest have to settle for the second best.
Like you supporters were instrumental in keeping Di Matteo for instance? You supporters had bugger all to do with it, the fact Jose was coming back was sorted long before. If Abramavich had wanted to keep Rafa do you think for one minute he wouldnt? Because you held a few flags up at games?
Understandable, jealousy works in mysterious ways, Frank was unassailable in midfield while at Chelsea and that was all due to Jose.
Di Matteo I thought was treated shabbily tbf but we were totally responsible for the fat Spanish waiters departure and Roman held meetings with supporters groups who let him know exactly how the fans felt about him. The reason for this was the fantastic reception we gave him every match especially at home. I'm proud we got shot of him, worst ever Chelsea boss.
So we love Jose to much , Ok then we wont sing the slippy g song or the have you ever seen gerrard win the league ditty. On second thoughts i bet we do even more .
