I love the fact that some people feel the need to "question" or point out the possible issues of a player who has come in for two games, played well and scored two goals.

Go to your kitchens. Turn on the tap. Put more water in your glass.

No, just responding to someone else who was wondering whether Elia would want to stay at the end of his loan.
And no talk of either Elia or Koeman going.

Just spoken with a Villa fan in work who seemed to think there had been strong rumours linking us with Benteke, who wants to leave. I've had a look online and can't see anything. Something anyone else has heard?

Just written this on the Maya scoring for Japan thread and interested to hear anyone else's opinion.

Iran have just beaten the UAE by a single goal to finish top of their group but I was impressed by one of the UAE players.
Omar Abdulrahman is a 23 year old attacking midfielder that can also play as a winger, he previously had a trial at Man City (2012), but it was not taken further due to his not being granted a work permit. UAE are now one place behind the South Koreans in the FIFA rankings and SK players can work in the UK, so that might not be a problem now.
He was ranked as the top Asian player of 2012, and in 2013 as the most promising of future stars in Asian football. Not too many players have impressed me from the Asian Cup so far, but he is one that could well get a chance in Europe and why not at Saints?

I'm very wary of us buying a player based on a tournament.

But that is not what he said.
The player mentioned is twice Asian player of the year and only failed to secure a move to man city due to work permit issues (oweing to the low rank of his home nation)

That is far from a salif diao or karel poborsky type situation

I imagine he thinks he is better than us. Either in actuality or by default if he rocks up and demands 80k p/w or more (which he wouldn't consider unreasonable given Defoe ) .

That said I can't think of many clubs who could pay that who would take him and play him. He would take kane's place at spurs and I don't think they want that. Can only really think of Liverpool. But they probably need to shift either borini or Lambert first which they might struggle to do. And after all that he doesn't seem to fit their system.

Would be a great signing but probably out of our price range (and a slap in the face to pelle)

I was just adding my opinion of a player highly ranked in Asian football, a player many outside of this region are probably not too aware of.

Saw him play against Kuwait and he ripped them apart (not too difficult). Looked handy but it's extremely hard to judge how well he'd do with a massive step up. Thing is, there's lots of players who could do well for us, but at 23 he needs to play in Europe right now to see if he will make it long term.
I remember we've been there before. Andriy Pereplyotkin was a hugely rated player by staff at the club but couldn't get through the red tape, was let go and then never really became anything at all. He missed the boat.

Who was the Moroccan chap who had the brilliant World Cup, then went to Villa (from memory) and was actually a bit pants. Late 90s I think.

EDIT - Moustafa Hadji. That was him.

I'd like to see us put a 30-40 million bid in for someone, just to let people know we have ambitions to be a big club.

Obviously it would be a bluff, wouldn't actually want to spend the dough, but would be fun.

Imagine reading "Saints offer 35 million for Ross Barkley"

Then we'd leave it to you to explain to Katharina that a joking offer had been accepted :)
