So Villa want £20 million for Downing, are they living in cloud cuckoo land?

If he was half that price, I'd be looking for alternatives.

This is just another example of the greed engulfing English football. Just because he's English doesn't mean he's worth double of a foreign national. He's good, but £20 million you have got to be joking.

If I was Kenny, me thinks I'd be studying Mr Mata's and Mr Turan's profiles a little harder.

dont get it, I hate the transfer windows..

If we want downing just pay it, same Mata, or any other target...the longer we haggle over a few million the less time new players have to adapt to the squad and pre season...

Id rather we signed Alonso, Mata and Gervinho. I thought Inusa was a great left back for us, when is he due back?

Aquilani is an attacking midfielder, so why go for Adam? Alonso is a better player by miles so why go for second best with Adam..

What does Comolli do? I mean hes had since the close of the last transfer window to scout new players, so whats the delay?

I dont see UTD or City having any problem in landing their targets, yet we seem to be if you believe the press hype..

I hoped under FSG LFC would have done teh transfer business alot better, but its looking like same of ****...

I heard £19m is their latest rounded-up rumour leaked to some bloke.

Why are people posting all this stuff on forums and not just dropping Kenny a line at Anfield to set him straight on his rubbish talent-spotting?

£12-14M and N'Gog would be a deal I would take.

I would still prefer Mata though!

    David Schofield has tried.

Kenny just isn't known for his talent spotting, we all know how **** he is - look at Suarez, he's an example of Kenny's crap talent spotting.

Remember when he signed Barnes and Beardsley..Thought "Kenny love you lad, but an eye for a player you don't have!!"

I don't think it's totally down to the 'greed of English football', I reckon it is also down to the fact clubs know we have money.

Paying massively over the odds for Hendersen has inflated the prices further.

Bow..Agree on the greed bit..It's out of control. I've a mate who's a Plymouth Argyle fan, he's had an email saying seats for adults next season will be £25 for adults..to watch league 2 football!! That's a disgrace.

Seems to me if a player's born in England think of a number, double it..There you go that's how much he's worth!!

Yer I would tend to agree with that. Massively inflated!

The Plymouth ticket is probably down to the fact they're broke. But still it's bloody expensive!

Too expensive. They bought him for £12m and he has done nothing but increase his age since then.

I hope we look at Mata and other targets before jumping in with a £19million offer

yeah, because of course if you're going to pay lots of money, it's better to get a player with a foreign name and no premiership experience, rather than a guy who supplied more crosses from outfield play than anyone else last season from midfield in the premiership, and who has the same number of assists as Gerrard in the past 7 years.

How dare you use statistics to help inform your judgement. Why should we be one of the first clubs in the league to get rid of Jurassic, outdated methods and actually alleviate some of the risk of transfers with in-depth analysis? I've seen MOTD most weeks and not once has Harry Redknapp referred to SD as 'triffic'. Football is about hunches, gut-feeling and knee-jerking. What's going to get us back into the Champions League is gambling on expensive foreigners. Football teams don't work when you have players who are there to bring out the best in others, the Busquet type players who allow their teams mates to perform to the best of their abilities and who are part of a greater whole, the best thing to do is assemble individuals from various countries, based on reputation, and at great expense like Real Madrid. Yes that's how we should run our business.

I think liverpools offer will make downing stick in a transfer request - the difference between the two clubs valuations will be about the same amount that downing will forfeit by putting in the transfer request

well real madrid is the most succesful club in the world. and man city have moved from a bottom half club to a club fighting for the title using that technique, so you never know it might just work out :p haha.

The starting valuation for Juan Mata is £15 million, thats how much Arsenal are offering,I reckon if we top that say £18 million...he's ours.As Big Eck is insisting Downing is not for sale.

To be honest, I wish we would get both. Downing as the natural winger and Mata as the tricky one who cuts inside. Both will add variety to our style.
